It is DOT 4, or DOT 5.1...do not use DOT 5

If it's out you have a slave cyl leak.

also how do you add it?
On the coffin style reservoirs you remove the two phillips head screws, lift the cover and bellows and fill it about 2/3 of the way up. Collapse the bellows/gasket and retighten the two screws.

Don't ignore that statement. If your bike is that new, and your reservoir has gone dry, there's a leak. This should be addressed asap, as you've found it's problematic for riding, but the fluid is corrosive also. Leaving it to leak will do damage to the finish on your bike
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Yep.  The level will actually raise with clutch wear and the repair should be covered by warranty.

yeah, i didn't fill anything. i just made an appointment for the ducati dealership to come pick up my bike. the problem is when i let out the clutch in first gear the bike doesn't move. and when i get it going it slips when its at high torque. the tech said my clutch is slipping and that they will probably need to order parts. said my bike might be down about 3 weeks or so. basically all of october. the best riding month!

totally fu*king bummed!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm, ok that's really sort of the opposite problem a leaking clutch slave would produce. If you were not getting enough pressure to the slave from the lever, that would make getting it into a gear really tough. Common complaints when people have a leaking slave, or it's in dire need of bleeding are difficult/clunky shifts, not being able to get neutral if the bike is still etc.

Sounds like you've got a different issue there.

None of which fits the empty reservoir scenario. ???

If he didn't know how to add the fluid then perhaps he didn't know how to check the fluid and assumed it was out because of the problems he was experiencing...

Had a similar thought, that the sight glass on the coffins is about useless - looks like a black nothing in there if you have the lid on. There have been a couple panic posts over the years of people thinking they were out of fluid in the coffins due to that.
