Chopped fender. How does it look?

I wanted to shorten the fender like on my 76 CB400F cafe.  I've worked the edges till they were perfectly smooth.  I'm going to hit it with a satin black.   I have another chopped fender in the works right now that I'm going to have painted Ducati yellow like the tank.  Im not sure what I'll like better.  What do ya think?

Damn.  I'm taking a beating over the reflectors.   I didn't realize everyone takes them off.   They never really bothered me.  I don't do any night driving so I could probably remove them.

I cut the first couple of inches off with a fine tooth jigsaw.  I then used the cut, radius portion, as a template and just traced the original curvature to the inside of the fender.  After I transfered the radius, I beltsanded it down to the line.  I then finished it by hand(different grits of sand paper).  The material underneath is like a translucent ABS or something.  Its a good material to work with.  The front and rear edge is smooth as a babys ass and ready for paint.  Should look pretty nice.

Nice work on the fender chop. This is what I did to mine over the winter.  Possibly one of the easier mods to do.  $14 fender from ebay and hack away!

Ha! Sticker was removed within days of the picture.  I posted it elsewhere and got crap for it too!  So, consider it...problem solved!

I did the same think to mine. I Liked it more, but not enough. So then I grafted a Buell XB front fender on. Looked ten times better IMO.

That's the same line as the trim was on my S4's front fender.  The line from the supports flowed seamlessly into the fender itself.


The cut on the fender in the OP looks great too.  I can't decide which one I like better.

All right all you reflector haters.  Ya happy now.
After removing the reflectors I had noticed it left some hard crusty residue inside the machining grooves on the alum.  Ive tried heat, WD, Goobgone, kero, etc.  I also tried a soft brass wire brush being careful not to remove the clear coat.  That worked but some of the residue is still there.  Any ideas?
