How Far Would You Go ?

Someone has brought up an interesting point about over exposing a certain " great stretch " of roads by route #s on a Forum and causing them to become overloaded w, serious riders and also squids plus heavier than normal presence of [leo].

See VW151's Thread about SR555 on this page, mainly the last 8-10 posts.

So my question is this.

How far would you ride if you read about or saw a video ( to get to that ) of a great stretch of roads .

100,150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400 miles ( I'd trailer my bike to the area and spend the night somewhere within 100 miles ).

I once flew 1800 miles, bought a bike, and then rode 600 miles to do ride a couple of roads. Does that count?  ;)

Well, I once went over 1000 miles to get to Deals Gap. But the road certainly wasn't the only reason for going, so...

Maybe a couple hundred miles? Something I could ride to, ride on, and then ride home from in a day. Double that if I knew someone in the area I could stay with...

Wouldn't....wouldn't the whole thing just be a bike ride.....?

I can't guess, as I live so close to the good roads.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

If it was some type of epic ride that was hundreds of miles away. I wouldn't want to make it a day trip. Either ride in, hotel up, then head out for the ride fresh. Then hotel up and ride back home. Or trailer it in, do the ride then trailer it back.

Couple of my friends and I rode 220 miles, one way, to try a stretch of road out that one of the guys had read about near the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Turned out that the roads to and from our intended highway were more fun.

I think in a hilly or Mountainous area that is not very populated if the road surfaces are decent then most all of the roads should be good ones.

We have some truly terrific roads in Marin. Maybe an hour and change away.

I can't be bothered.

That answer it?

I think he want's to know how far you would go. For you that would be out of your driveway. ;) (with your quiet exhaust  :D)

No more'n an hour-even when I didn't live in the twisties, I wouldn't go far.

I typically go long distances on the bike, but more for a moto gathering (to see people) or to see some specific attraction, like say, vegas. Tail of the dragon sounds nifty, and I would check it out if I was in the area, but I'm not making a moto pilgrimage to see it.

I just put 1k on the clock this weekend to ht two roads the next state over. They were extremly long stretches of great paved roads full of 30 and 20 mph sweepers through the mountains. It was great. Only about 350 miles of it were slab. Of course I wanted to do a long trip so two nights stay was part of it.

I rode 700 miles to get to Lake Placid, NY last year, and 350 or so to Deal's Gap this year.  Of course, part of the fun was in getting there, too.  At some point I'm going to ride the Rockies, but I'll probably figure out a way to fly out and then ride, rather than do the 1300 miles  :o each way

30 and 20 mph sweepers is an oxymoron.   [roll]
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.
