Company sprung for a smart phone so I can get email remotely.

We're small, and really have no IT dept.  Im in way over my head on this.  I use Outlook 2000-SP3 in the office.  The phone is an XV6900 from Verizon.

I seem to be able to get email to the phone, but responses don't get out, even though it seems like they've been sent.

When i plug into my computer to charge and use ActiveSync, it totally make the beast with two backss up my contact list.  Verizon swapped contacts from my old phone (listed as Ducati Monster Forum) to my new phone (which now has them as Forum, Ducati Monster- which I hate)  Anyhow, it took all the f'd up contacts in my phone and intermingled them with my good contact list on my computer.   >:(

Now I have doubles of a lot of stuff on my computer and my phone.

I have also noticed that I have 283 emails in my outbox (on my laptop) and they all seem to be duplicates of the same email.  Usually there are 0 emails in the outbox.  My dad sent me a test msg last night and I replied.  He never got it and the reply is one of the msg's in my outbox.  Like 100 times.

I fixed my contact list on my laptop manually (ugg!) and made a backup of it.  I then deleted all of the contacts and plugged the phone in to sync (in an attempt to clean out the phone)

Note: I just checked and this seems to have worked.  There's I chance I have the contact thing sorted.  More later.

But, I still need some assistance on the email thing.  Anyone out there setup their own phone/email?

Computer noob needs help.

What model phone do you have?

You do not have to plug your phone into your laptop for synching; that is what active synch is all about.

very similar to the HTC touch.

I don't have to plug in?  If i didn't, how would the calender and tasks etc update?  It won't do it wirelessly now.

that is what Active Synch does.

It synchs up your email, contacts, calendar, tasks, etc.

The Domain slot is currently empty.  I don't know what a domain is or what should go in there.

i was having a similar problem... it could have to do with the port settings for your email server. IIRC verizon shuts down common email ports on their network to force customers to communicate with them for stuff like this. Chances are if you call verizon tech support they'll be able to help you.

I can't help with the email problem, but as far as syncing goes I suggest that you get an exchange server.  It's easier since it will wireless auto sync throughout the day and sync with your outlook as well.  It is an additional cost, but is very secure and reliable.  I use a treo 700wx.

^^

I tried that and it says "waiting for network"

I also notice that when I go back in there, the domain is gone, and my password has too many digits.  I suspect it's not retaining the information Im typing in there.

Any ideas?

Did you figure out what your domain is? I think you said earlier you didn't know it. I think that is a key part to making this work.

As for the password, your PW is correct in there, it adds a bunch of digits for security protection.
