well there should be a bolt included when you bought the tank. that is if you bought it new from CA. the included, smaller 4mm allen bolt, takes place of the the front stock hex bolt. but if you use the stock 8mm hex bolts, the front bolt will sit too high and dig into the tank, and put unwanted stress on the hinge area. i noticed this on mine just the other day and only using the 2 bolt on the rear of the mount. i highly doubt the tank will fall off, besides it makes your life a lot easier if you have to completely remove the tank.

when switching over the rubber tank feet, be gentle and not to over tighten. also you'll have to readjust your tank latch. you'll most likely have to use the bottom latch mount on the tank. if your fit was like mine, when fastening the tank, it's going to be a little tight.

when i set the plate on the bottom, be sure that the o-ring sit properly. tightened the bolts like on a car wheel. also i used yellow or gasoline resistant plumber tape on the fuel fittings.

I know that's an aftermarket seat and all... but the notch for the seat doesn't even look like it was made for the right bike...

I'm considering one down the road when my second tank expands, but that area looks like it was molded incorrectly. I also wish I could get it in Dark but I guess beggars can't be choosers.

Hi Artful, the notch is intended more for the EFI seats, so if you have a "dark" model, your seat will look like how mine fits on my s2r. I can send you a black tank that doesn't work and you can experiment with the finish to see if you can make it "dark". Then if you want, we can sell you a good black tank.

And yes, for the front bolt for the mounting plate, we supply a low head socket screw. Dub: want us to mail you one? Or you can swap with one from the fuel plate...

That makes sense, didn't realize the carbed bikes had different seat profiles.

These tanks are polyethylene right? It was my understanding that you really can't get paint to stick to that surface, I know we can't get vinyl film to stick to it for any length of time (I'm in the sign world). I'd be glad to R&D some adhesive films to see if the surface can be wrapped. I head up our franchise R&D center and work with all the major manufacturers (3M, Avery, etc) to test their products in signage applications. If you have a damaged tank I'll be glad to pay shipping to test it out for you.

I took a look at the tank this morning.. It's not bad but the finish is kinda spotty.. Parts of it is fine and parts of it isn't that great.. Did I just get a uglier tank or something?

Rotary molded polyethylene isn't going to have a perfect finish, the site actually states that somewhere I believe. It's a track tank so that is kinda expected. Function over form

I'm not overly worried about adhesion ... coming up with the goo isn't the problem. The issue with PE fuel tanks is vapor permissivity. Basically, an amount of fuel vapor will leave through the side of the tank. Dirt bike graphics that go on the fuel tank are perforated, so the vapor has somewhere to escape.

Your tank is not different from any other tank that comes from the same mold. And the same as in the pics. When we ship UPS Ground in the US, we include a can of maxima silicon clean spray, which makes the most shiny appearance on the tanks. White doesn't exactly lend itself to the color depth of the other tanks. This is a white tank on my bike. This is the same white tank in the photo studio. I actually made effort to hand pick the worst tanks we had for the photoshoot so as to present the most accurate rendering. Notice in the photo shoot pic that you can clearly see the seam around the perimeter. This picture best shows the surface imperfections.

When we set out on this project, I carefully laid out my expectations to the company who we were working with on the design (and who would make the mold). Given the only process they know is sand cast molds, they neglected to let me know that I would never be able to get a smooth polished surface. The metal has pockets of raw sand in it. I spent at least 100 hours sanding and polishing the mold to get it where it is today. Before / after pic.

All throughout this project, I have been very upfront about the surface finish. And after having fired that vendor, all of our projects going forward use digital design and the molds are CNC from billet. This gives us the option to get a mirror polish if desired.

I think the tank looks hot on the bike ... and as long as I'm more than arm's reach away from the tank, it is about impossible to notice the surface. I recommend against sanding, however, one MTT43 owner said that he is wet sanding his, but the plastic is super soft and it's not easy to work with. If you really want to give a go at sanding, I can send you a section of one of our engineering tanks to experiment with.

if you're a taller rider, you'll love the tank even more. i'm 6'2'' ish and the cut outs feel so good. way more comfortable. with the stock tank i was riding bowlegged.
