My money says the American Stig is Tanner Foust.

American Stig is a big fat guy in a trailer in Florida...

Not sure who *that* impostor is.

This is still like watching your friend in a high school drama production.  You hope and hope that they succeed, but it is still undeniably unwatchable.

Knowing that this is a UK production crew working on this show puts it all in perspective for me.  I think we were all afraid that they would Americanize out all the things we like about the good version.  Instead, they cloned it, warmed it up to room temperature, and made adjustments the British would think we would want.

There should be, at most, one person who can't drive on the show.  We have two.  One of those shows faint potential of being the comic relief, and the other is much less funny version of Mike Teutul.  One slow driver is funny, two is tragic.  It is like watching a show about two 13 year-old boys that get to hang out in The Grotto -lucky for them, but it is a pointless waste of talent and resources.

I think the show would seem less awkward if they fluffed the audience a bit.  They seem every bit as stiff as the hosts.  Let them actually banter, instead of reading bantery lines, and get rid of Rutledge.  If they really wanted to appeal to NASCAR fans, get an actual NASCAR driver.

Got to watch episode 2. What is it with them driving super cars in dirt!? First the lambo in the bull ring then the Aston in a lake bed...

Speaking of that... I skipped the bulk of that segment... pain.

Now seeing a spark of emotion from Faust when driving the Evo and the drift stuff gave me a little hope. Just a little... not much really... But still Wood has got to go.

Oh, I get the way too obvious analogy...so are they going to put a Mustang in a quarter horse ring, fly a Mercedes etc etc? I just thought it was trying too hard  :-\  And seeing that car getting all crudded up made me a sad panda

Well, BBCTG raced a greyhound (I forget what the car was) on a dog track.  I wouldn't put it past TGA to run a Mustang on a horse track.  Not very original but then again...

The second episode was better.  Yes the dialog is scripted.  Yes originality is missing.  Yes hosts behave like it's your friends at a high school production.  Yes some of the dialog would work in the UK but doesn't really translate to the US.

Give them time.  Most of our complaints could have been applied to the first season of the real Top Gear.  I only hope our 30 second attention span can wait for them to work things out before they pull the show off the air.

You've got to give them credit where it's due.  Drifting with a blind guy?!  That's awesome.  His seeing eye dog pee's on the stage!   [thumbsup]

I also like the progress meter for the track runs.  The first season of Real TG not only had the track map but the also has a g-force meter which was cool.  But I can see how it could be distracting.

Did like that segment.  They opened up a bit and were more off the cuff during it, which is where this sort of show seems best.  Capping it off with the dog peeing was pretty funny.

I think this is key.

I watched last night's episode, and liked a fair amount of it.....
