Tire Choice

So I'm going to need to replace my rear tire very shortly.  I've been toying with the idea of putting a 190/55 on but can't seem to find any real pro/con of this on the forum.  Wouldn't the 190 have a better turn-in?  I do like riding the bike through turns and have no issues handling the bike with the 180 on it now.  Thanks.

Also, the bike is an S2R 800 with OEM wheels.

Actually, a 170 will give you faster turn in than a 180.  A 190 isn't going to fit right on the rim.

People somehow think that they get more traction from a wider tire, but most riders will never reach the point where they can tell the difference in traction.  You're really doing it for looks, right?

The brand and model of tire will make a bigger difference to traction than 10 mm of width anyway.

I recommend the Pirelli Angel ST as the best all around tire, by the way.

6" = 190
5.5-5.75" = 180
5.0-5.5 = 170
4.5-5.0 = 160

That's what i been goin' by for years.

I surely did not like the pilot roads i put on for my ride to vegas last year. they were great for such a high mileage ride, but they don't offer much in grip or in feedback.

i will be rockin' some supercorsas for a while, trackday takeoffs.

That's funny, I ran a Pilot Road 2 rear, and found plenty of grip dry and wet, but the mileage wasn't great.

Well I'll stick with my 180 then.  BTW, I'm running Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP front and rear and I'm almost at 7k m on them.  I LOVE these tires.  What a huge improvement from the crap that came stock on the bike.

make the beast with two backsin' weird. i'm talking, no wear at all after 3k mi to vegas and back, flat spotting a bit, and no grip at lean (mine are not the 2's, though).   I'm at 6k and the rear is looking a bit ragged, about to change.

i'm getting less than 3,500 *good* miles out of supercorsas. They look pretty shagged after a trackday. Marty or Jeff @ AMS can get 'em done in a single trackday on the R's. And I mean absolutely done.

Mind you...I'm in Miami so I try to stay off the slab as much as possible and stick to the streets so as not to burn through the middle of them.  But I don't do trackdays yet...YET
