i agree the modern mma is a sport with rules of competition and such.

yes the earlier days of ufc i think they "discouraged" but there was no rule against groin kicks and eye gouging.  so it was a different time then.  just like football used to use leather helmets and you could do clothesline tackles.  the "sport" of mma has matured over the years.

MMA is more of a street fighting style.  Unfortunately to make it a sport where a fighter can have more than one match there are rules.  but put one of these guys in a street fight the other guy is in for a month in the hospital.  Now Bruce ate breathed and shit JKD.  He can do some amazing things but the ping pong and match thing is a bit much. It looks like they took raw footage from "Enter the Dragon" and used some of his warm up film to make these videos.
