PCIII an Open Airbox mod with dyno tune
«
on:

I called somewhere enquiring about getting a PCIII and tune for the S4R.
Was quoted $900 in total. $400 being for the PCIII. The price for the PCIII sounds reasonable but $500 for a dyno tune seems a bit over the top.....
What do you guys think?

Depends on who is putting it on the Dyno and there skills.
If I needed it $500 on a good dyno tune is okay by me.

what about the labour to fit it? $400 for a PCIII is cheap by the way, i need one and the retail is $540 here and i'm not keen on e-bay as serco won't even look at it without an aussie receipt. overall that price sounds fair to me, i was quoted $350 for a custom tune so i don't think it's too hefty at all.

well since atm the dollar is so strong and you can have one here for $330 US , so say $350AUD tops then i would take the chance , reports of bad PC's are few and far between , and if you arent desperate there is plenty of PC's pop up on ebay for $100 or so
labour to install?? , it takes longer to read the instructions than to put it on
on the S4 you disconnect the TPS and fit the 2 plugs
disconnect injectors and fit the plugs
fit power cable to battery
fit PCIII to top of battery , alll done in about 10 mins

yep, you're probably right there, but, doing a custom tune on a poorly tuned bike doesn't make any sense at all, and there's no way of knowing the state of the tune unless you check. soooo, you need to check the throttle bodies are balanced, and the tps is set correctly, at a minimum. you get what you pay for, no point skimping, why even pay for a PCIII and a custom map to get the best out of the bike if you're going to cut corners? makes no sense.

Cakeman,
Just a query, what is the reason for wanting the PC tuner...? I thought you were happy with the way it is running.

single map or dual map
PCIII is capable of separate maps for each cylinder. finer adjustment.

the way I see it, is it going to perform $900 + the cost of the airbox mods better than it is now?
If so go for it!
If not or you're unsure spend your hard earned on something else.

Vossy, you do remember which forum you posted on don't you?
If that was the basis for all our decisions none of us would be riding Monsters, very few modifications would have been made and this place wouldn't exist.

dude, seriously, what the make the beast with two backs is bizarre about getting base settings correct before spending time on a custom map?
and yes, i'm sure you check your tps (by degrees or voltage?) and throttle body balance before you send your bike in for a tune..........
I'm not defending anyones pricing structure, but i am saying it sounds fair from my experience and i'll also add that your overly simplistic view of what is required to CORRECTLY tune and install a CUSTOM map may be contributing to your opinion that cakeman's quote was high.
then again, maybe you have shitloads of experience installing PCIII on fridges?

would i be right in think that for the quote i was given to install the PCIII andtune, it would include a going over of the base settings (TB Balance & TPS?) or would that be on top of that?
