Need caliper bolts recommendations
«
on:
November 04, 2010, 09:18:56 AM »
I'm rebuilding a '99 M750 using S2R 1K forks with 2 pot brembo calipers from a Paul Smart. I need recommendations on caliper bolts. I don't have the original bolts and need somewhere I can buy aftermarket bolts that will work. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I picked some up at ACE hardware. They were the black ones. I think grade 12 hardness.

I
think
they're M10.
Torque is around 30 lb/ft.

They are definitely M10.
M10x1.25, 25mm long to be exact.

can't beat that price for the stainless kit.
the bolts are beautiful too, i have them.
316 stainless too, stronger than standard 8.8.

Gotta point out that those black-oxide bolts will rust the first time they get wet.
If you're in a very dry climate, they may look OK for a while.
77154318B is an OEM bolt, ~$3 each.

While on the subject of bolts...I am replacing the rotors on my Monster and want to use fresh bolts. Was thinking of a set of titanium ones (ooooh, blingy!), but good quality SS ones will do. Size of those?

Thanks for pointing that out. I was going to purchase some like that at Home Depot but I was more concerned with the strength of the bolts. Didn't know they are likely to rust. I live in a high humidity area.

They have been installed for over a year with little signs of rust and I've been in the rain with them. There is plenty of anti seize on them and I check the torque periodically. They're harder than stainless. I needed them in a rush so that's another reason why I have them.
Good Luck Pedro

I just updated the whole front end worth of bolts using stainless that were on the shelf at Fastenal...I think it cost me a whopping $8.00 or so...It was like 16 bolts that included the calipers. Don't use those black ones from the hardware store....just crap!

Grade 12 from Ace? Doubtful...in any event, I've used Fastenal US made stainless on plenty of projects over the years and never had issue one of them breaking...If they do, they are insured. I doubt the asian made stuff is...
