A buddy of mine in high school came from a family of NASCAR fanatics...in the 70s.  He had two older brothers (both firemen), one owned a Superbird, the other a Daytona.  My friend "borrowed"  the Daytona one Friday while the bros were on duty and we drove to Riverside Raceway for the NASCAR Winston West road race...January 1974.  It was like driving a pit pass!  They let us in the gate without paying and let us park in the paddock area.   Got autographs from Gurney, Yarborough, Petty, Pearson, McGriff.  Pretty cool stuff for an 18 year old.

that is a great story   [thumbsup]

#1  1970 Plymouth Superbird with 440 Hemi and a six-pack

...not to bag on 'ya, but the 440cid motor was a wedge head, the 426cid motor was the Hemi...

(I'm a motor-head from Detroit, I really can't help it...)

Thanks Stew--I'll tuck that information away for when I'm on Jeopardy... "Alex, I'll take Hemi or not Hemi for $200."  :)

One of those brothers was also responsible for my love of motorbikes.  He owned a CB750...his roommate (yet another fireman) owned a CB550.  They would let us borrow the bikes when they were on duty (yup, these guys walked the line on contributing to the delinquency of minors).  My friend rode his bro's 750 and I rode the 550, which I consider my first bike.  All we had to do was return them cleaned with a full tank of gas.  Good times.

no supercars..........hmmmmmmmm does that make my dream car out of the running? Back in the day I am sure they would have been considered a supercar, fast handled well and look good.
Austin Healy 3000 GT.Still a very desireable car. Completely out of my league but perhaps one day.
I drive a supercar at the moment. A 1992 Honda Civic complete with dents and scratches, and the optional radio. Due to the theft of my radio I now own the 1992 ghetto model........thats the highly desireable model that comes without sounds(other than worn out mechanical noises) leaky door seal, Optional front fender dent, key scratches and chipped windshield. On a really good day the windscreen wiper motor works. This is a super car, fast handles and fun to drive. It also has a fully operating electric rear left door window. The others are broken. [thumbsup]
The best thing about this car is it is paid for. Its mine and there is no car payment!

.. Well which is it.. a 440 Wedge and a 6 pack, or a 426 Hemi and a 6 pack? (Though that would be somewhat custom, as most were equipped with either a single 4 barrel, or dual 4 barrels on either a cross ram or dual plane intake) Or are you just in the mood for custom bores and strokes and turning a normal 426 Hemi into a 440 Hemi?   ;D  Awesome car either way, I'm just being a smartass.
440 6-Pack

Hemi, Single plane intake Dual quads..

Hey BGB:  if it gets ya where yer goin', that's super enough!  ;)

BTW, my current SUPERcar is a '94 Ford Ranger p/u with the medium blue interior, a superbly dented up long-bed and 5 on the floor.  Only thing really super about it is that it's only got 72K miles on it.  :D [thumbsup]

Ratfink:  the wedge/hemi argument was already addressed above but thanks for visual clarification!  :P  LOL...

Which motor Stu?

I had a 94 with the 3.0 V-6. It got outstanding mileage, but could sniff out a hill from 5 miles away.  ;D

my current supercar is a bonestock 2005 Subaru Baja Turbo...(well, I put a towhitch on)

I would still love to have back and modded to my spec my old 83 VW Rabbit Pick-Up truck ( Caddy) and put a set of H&R Cup springs on it and a 16V motor( 2.0 block-1.8 head) with many other various mods to list...but basically set it up like my old 87 Scirocco.

2.3l I4.  At this elevation, I'm pushing it to get 80mph out of 'er on the highway.

I'm debating finding an old Turbo-Coupe & do a motor swap to add power and compensate for being a mile over sea level...

Add a supercharger.

The bad part about my year Ranger is the weak-ass 5-speed transmission.  The TC's had BW T-5's so they're a lot stronger...

Hence, Id like to do a whole driveline upgrade as my clutch is weak right now...  That, and my neighbor has an 88 TC in his backyard rotting away...

Lago?  believe i saw something similar at the mullin museum.  stunning!

Sorry- got sidetracked on the Superbird discussion. This isn't a Talbot Lago, it's a Bugatti. I think it is a Type 57 SC Atlantic. Also one of my favs!
