and yes racism is alive and well in the united states and the world. there are a lot of people that still believe that "if you ain't white, you ain't right".  Of course this is not limited to only "white people" you can insert any race as saying prejudicial things about any other race.  I just used that saying as an example that is all.  I've learned that people are only as civil as they "have to be".

the fact that the guy was fired for keeping calm and following the rules of his job is absolutely insane.  completely and totally insane.

Coming from a multi-cultural, multi-lingual, and mult-ethnic up bringing, I tend to think that people like that woman don't exist anymore - it's the belief that the sort of socio-cultural ignorance that we see here is being bred out of humanity that keeps me optimistic.

Sadly, the world isn't quite there yet.

seeing things "as they should or could be",,, rather than,,, "how they actually are"

is dangerous stuff...

it can get you killed in some venues

That lady is a racist and should be locked up for assault and battery

we all agree on that

Quote from: sbrguy on November 12, 2010, 10:39:50 AM
The guy has a job to do and there are rules he has to follow, as a worker you should know that its not in your right to break rules that you are legally required to follow.  You may want to to defuse a situation but if its not in your athorrity to break the rules then you should not break them.

Agreed, there are rules to follow and I would be completely shocked if there was not a policy that the postal service has in place to deal with a situation where a person signs for certified mail and then realizes it isn't actually theirs

that lady was completeyout of line, she signed for the letter then didn't  want to take repsonsibilty for the screw up and go back to the post office to return it.  it was omcpletey her fault.

agreed she was completely in the wrong

the guy was doijg his job and she didnt' have to sign for it but did.  he doesn't have the authority to then take back the letter and say it wasn't signhed for it was.  simpel as that.

she was then mouting off and then threaten the guy and you would fire the guy for keeping his calm.  that is crazy.

and mostly agreed here as well

however

This guy and I have very little difference in our Jobs

we both get paid to drive a government vehicle to the public's homes and provide a service that may or may not result in varied emotional responses

It is the responsibility of the worker to remain calm and deflate potentially negative situations while following policy to the letter

the first way you do that is to present the policy to the offended party

once you see the results of that action and identify that continuing to repeat it will not deflate the situation but in fact escalate it

you change tactics

you ask the offended party how they would like the situation resolved

if their requests would force you to violate your given protocols

then you get your supervisor involved

if the offended party's reaction is violence

you secure your own safety and the safety of your government and/or public owned property

and

You call the police

What you do not do is continue to repeat the actions that provoked the emotional and now violent response while continuing to secretly video tape it then post it up on Youtube, that is completely wrong and thus justification for firing the guy

Indeed...no short supply in her ranks...but it falls into "dog bites man" category of non-news....or "insane person behaves oddly"...

this goes on all over the country and world on a daily basis...crazy people and hell, even people with Tourette's Syndrome use the "N" word

disengaging from irrational potentially violent people is common sense.... whether it is in your job description or not...

this guy had an agenda

I am with Mother on this one

whipping up a frenzy in Locked-Down America between the inmates...while the real ass-make the beast with two backsing of ALL of us (irrespective of color) goes on unabated by invisible people,,, is a tired shopworn card to play

it serves no worthwhile purpose

I agree - it's hard to argue with a written policy.

Also, I did think it was a bit odd that he didn't call the police - especially after she stuck him.  :-\

I wonder what the odds are that he's had trouble with her in the past and this time he wanted to catch it on film for proof.

i don't think his original intention was to post it on youtube. most likely as video evidence of his side of the story when the lady filed a complaint that eventually landed on his supervisor's desk.

from what i can gather on the innertubes, he's sat on this video for about a year.

the video ended up on youtube due to the lack of progress on the investigation into him getting fired for the incident.

I would imagine that the post office has pretty strict policy on video taping people/incidents while on duty

aside from his intention to put it up on youtube or use it for his personal defense

he posted it anyway

which IMO simply reinforces the Post Office's decision to fire him

His agenda was to make the lady look as bad as she is and he succeeded

and

he paid the price for it

WOW!!! And to think that there's no such thing exists in America. I came from a country where I was being discriminated because of my race and religion. There's hardly anything you can do legally where I came from. But, this happened in the US??? Unbelievable!  >:( >:( >:(. That woman should be locked up....period. And...why did the postman got fired??  [bang]....Sooo wrong....

Turf

he was fired for other reasons, like sucking at his job

ohh and 4chan did their thing and found her she's bound to get 100,000 swastika postcards now

Why would you think theres no racism in America? Racism exists in ALL corners of the world. It will be here forever and ever.

Heres the general rule of thumb ( for those of you who didn't grow up with racial discrimination)... and I'll agree with Mother that guy took this situation the wrong way, though I can't say if he is to blame or not, but he could of certainly avoided this whole situation by just following htis general rule...

Whenever you're involved in a conflict where there is racial tension, GET THE make the beast with two backs OUT THERE ASAP.

The only reason that person is opening their mouth is because YOU'RE THE MINORITY, theres not going to a huge black mob to lynch the lady cause he slapped him, but there will be a huge white mob ready to lynch him if he slapped her. Just the way life is.
