winter mods have begun! Update: finished!(ish)

im in the tear down and list making stages right now.

before;

currently;


when all said and done it will be getting;
powdercoated case covers, rear sets and misc. mini bits (headlight ears, bolt heads etc)
new tank and fresh paint (swollen tank)
stripped and cleared swingarm (or powdercoat depending on how it looks after stripping)
custom seat
TPO Beast, power commander, lightened flywheel and dyno tune
Gilles clip ons
1098 master cylinders
rizoma circuit 743 mirrors
hyper oil lines
oberon bar ends

and if cash allows;
some new grips, clutch slave, and some gilles levers. also really want to do something about the rear turn signals, maybe integrated?

I've started mine as well. No pics yet, but I plan on powdercoating all covers, lightening the fly-wheel, machining the clutch case like the DP Magnesium one. Cooler lines from Fren Tubo. Possibly paint the radiator. Grips, mirrors, and any thing else that my paycheck will allow me to do. Oh yeah, mid-pipe and clutch basket, plates and cover/ slipper. I dont know if I'll be able to stop. Its is almost like a desease. It is a desease.

Ah yes, those of us affected by winter have such time for projects. I had to rush to pick up my exhaust from the powder coater yesterday to squeek in a ride. I thought it was winter for sure last week!

Bike looks great already. i'm a fan of the cafe style!

that looks sweet man. I was thinking about doing something very similar to my seat ( i never use the cowl so i dont care about that) I wanted it to be more comfortable to carry a passenger too.

that looks nice if u made the rider seating area smaller and made the passenger side a bit flatter.

the only person I really ride with is my fiance, and she just got a triumph thruxton.

the passenger seat was built on to create a more complete bump stop (its about 1" taller than stock doesn't plateau at all) the main sitting area also goes back about 1/2" more than stock and much of the forward slope has been shaved down to further exaggerate the height of the bump stop.  you cant really tell in the picture to well but the forward black section is perforated.  I believe a passenger could be carried on this for short (under an hour) runs. more than that and they may get uncomfortable, but the seat would be fine.

the seat was done by ginger at new church customs here in portland. if any of you are even close to portland I suggest using her. very reasonable prices and she does an amazing job. you can check out her other stuff at newchurchmoto.com

Any tips for preparing the engine side case covers for powdercoating would be great. Like how to remove the alt side bearing, clutch baffle, what did you do about the sight glasses, how did you remove the various bits etc. What has to come out and what can stay in? I've been meaning to do this for a very looong time just haven't gotten around to it. That and I'm lazy.

honestly, that whole process is a bigger PITA than its worth. If I hadent scratched mine up in the fall I wouldn't have even bothered with it. there is a lot more stuff attached to those covers than you would think, and all of it has to go on and off a specifc way. hell, im still half convinced im going to turn the bike over and have it blow up on me.

one thing I will say, if you do get it PC'd, wash it with warm soapy water then blow it out with air and re-wash it. do it over and over until you would bet your house that its got no more blasting media. then do it a few more times, and let it sit over night. then do it again. sometimes paranoia pays off.

belt covers,master cylinder supports, lower triple stripped, brushed and cleared.
tire paint/reflective rim tape
black vinyl on fork lowers

so in the end it has parts from 5 different Ducati's spanning from 1986-2010. 6 if you count the needle I pulled out of a multi dash when I broke my s2r one  [roll]

full pictures will be up tomorrow, the thing is a blast to ride!

the 999 stuff is in one of the many bins of take off parts I have kicking around at work. the brake side reservoir was ground/bashed in the highside and while I was talking to a co-worker about repairing it he had a suggestion. the conversation went like this;

Me: "you think I can just replace the reservoir?"
Him: "dunno, you should just use 1098 ones instead"
Me: "but those are expensive, I cant do that"
Him: "you can if youve got a buddy with a few sets for a track bike he doesn't have anymore"

Same dude that did my flywheel and helped me do the 12k service while it was apart. I  <3 my job ;D
