Taking your lap-top with you-

Howdy folks,

I'm a brand new member, and I've been doing a lot of board reading today.

I've read many references to transporting your computers on your bikes, and I was wondering if anyone has had problems as a result.

I often want to take my comp with me, but I'm concerned about vibration damaging the internals if it's strapped to the back, and I'm also reluctant to use a back-pack because I'm afraid the small "here-and-there" bumps and knocks will cause some sort of damage.

I have a top-of-the-line MBP, and I don't want to hurt it...

I'd be very interested in hearing your thoughts on the matter.

Been riding with my laptop in a Swiss Gear bag to work and school for over two years. No probs. Just keep a trashbag in the bottom for suprise downpours.

I commute with a laptop all of the time. I use a Chrome messenger bag and a cheap padded lap top case from office max. Never had a problem.

And matmcd78 is spot on. Keep a plastic bag with you.

Your precious "top-of-the-line MBP" will be just fine.  I have an incase sling backpcack and I've never had a problem commuting to and from work, nor has the MBP.

I travel with my HP everyday in NYC. its probably going to see more bumps than ur MBP will see in its life time its fine. 2 years

My work laptop has probably done over 20,000 miles in a backpack with a padded section, no issues.  I think it gets more abuse when I travel with it.

i have my netbook in my bag with no padding, just in a pocket, pretty much all the time

I pack mine everyday and never had an issue.  Big +1 on the Chrome bags.  Hauls a laptop, 6 pack, and sweaty gym clothes with ease.

Besides... Rest assured that MacBooks have a higher failure rate than Dell. I knew a guy that worked for a computer recycling center in the Nashville area and they got tons of new Macs that had been RMA'd into the trash bin.

I love all things apple, except their laptops. My experience has been one of overheating, repairs and more overheating. It reminds me of my experiences with mid-80s Chrysler products.

Kreiga r-25 does a great job of carrying either my work-provided compaq or my cursed macbook.
