Mystic Seaport, in Mystic, CT is a working Seaport and museum.  They restore all sorts of old boats, nautical engines, etc...

My Dad has been volunteering gobs of hours at the Museum meticulously disassembling, cataloging, cleaning, machining, and rebuilding this old 1930's era Hall Scott V-12 PT Boat engine.
He's the short guy in the blue sweater with the tools making it go VROOM VROOM!!!  [evil]
Love you, Dad!  Congrats.   ;)

BTW... Do you think we can get Duck-Stew to stuff this thing into a frame and turn it into a drag bike?  :D

I find it disturbing that you're imagining me in a sauna, never mind the teletubbie aspect of it

Proud with good reason  [thumbsup]

Is that engine going into something floating?

BTW did you get a new bike recently?  [cheeky]
252,000 km/seventeen years - loving it

Hahah they give it the business. Watch that Tach needle fly right past it's max numbers on the gauge and get pinned.

Very cool - so are other folks working on the hull and such? Or is your dad going to be doing that too?
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Cool!!!

Did a little digging into Hall Scott engines and boats: https://hallscottengines.com/Gallery__4_-_Boats.html

Are they restoring a whole boat, or just the engine?
VIVA LA EVOLUCION!!!

And here I thought your Dad got a 999 or something.

This engine came out of a "Defender" PT boat.  Orangelion03's link has a picture.

I believe it's going back into the boat.  There is a whole other crew that works on the boats themselves.  My dad just works on the engines. If it runs on internal combustion, my dad can make it sing!    [evil]

;D  Dude!!  My Dad was almost as excited as I was when he found out I was getting the Trip-9!  He went to the Ducati site and was comparing the motor to the 10/1198, D16, etc...  He's such a motor head...

When my parents came out to visit last year, he spent a good amount of time in the garage with Duck-Stew just talking about different engines, starting up a few of the bikes, etc...

 8) you get to go hang out with him soon!  :)

My favorite part of the video is around 0:45 when the guy next to him tells him his arm is on fire, my Dad looks, blows it out, shrugs, and gets back to business with the tools!  [laugh]

I asked my Dad about that and he laughed and said, " I guess I got too close to the exhaust header, huh?  Oops!"  ;D

He called me the other day asking me to start the Trip-9, just so he could hear her motor!  [evil]

If I ever win the Lottery, the first thing I want to do is buy him his dream car, a 1962 Ferrari SWB California Spider.  I think the last one sold at auction went for around $14 million...   [drool]
