What touches down first?

I'm preparing to do my first track day and getting gear and bike in order. What normally touches down first on a stock '01 M900s? Are high mount exhausts going to be a necessity if i start improving or rear sets? is stock suspension (I have s model with adj front shocks) OK if setup right (at 140lbs wet I'm not worried about spring rates so much).

The foot pegs usually touch first. At least that's what happened with my 98 m900s.

This picture is with stock suspension. Not only do the pegs touch but so does the shifter. That can be fun.
If you raise the rear ride height it helps but it does change the bikes turn-in characteristics (for the better.) You may not like it on the highway.
I don't think the exhaust will be a problem.
But for your first track day just ride the bike. Make adjustments later as you need them.

Track day in December. I'm a little envious. Warmed up to 28 degrees so far and the flurries are on and off
.
Enjoy your day!

You have to hang way off the bike to drag the knee before the footpeg. So you might want to remove it.

I won't get the track day (actually a track school event) done this year - last event is Dec. 10 and they haven't posted the calendar for next year yet, but hopefully early next year. Here in Texas the winters are pretty variable - this past Saturday it was 80 degrees, but it may not make it above 60 today (I'm in Austin). My wife is getting me my leathers for Xmas and I'm just itching to get everything else ready to go...at 46 yrs old, this is something I've wanted to do for a long time but finally getting the nerve up to do it.
Based on these pics, I don't think I need to worry about things scraping anything for a long time...I didn't think the stock monster was capable of lean angles like that! Is that the kickstand and shifter in the "A" circle? And when you say "...might want to remove it..." what do you mean - remove what, the knee puck?

Sorry, my brain no work. I meant the kickstand, not the footpegs.

Here's another viewpoint of what a Monster can be capable of...( not me BTW, this was a guy in Europe on his 620)

this is, of course, dependent on the length of your legs... shorty.
