i got a GT with 1000DS motor and the starter system seems to be really acting up now. it's about sub 30F in New york city now in the morning.
and soon as the bike sits over 2 hours after the ride. Bike start to be impossible to turn on.

every time I try to start the bike. I would press the start button and
the bike would just click and click, turns over and over again but would not catch.

then after about 5-10 times turning over . it would simply drains up the battery and would not start anymore.

then i have to charge up the battery once again.

Note this only happen when I leave it out in the cold for a while.
I park it in the garage now near my apt when I get home. but when I head out. it becomes the problem.

Would it be a worn out starter motor? or it's possible something else??

all help is deeply appreciated.

If your battery and all the connections aren't perfect the bike won't start in those temps.

How old is the bike/battery?

I doubt the starter is the issue.

hum... isee,
changed the battery  end of September, I guess it's the conncetion then. I will double check that!

also during the course I installed a PCIII, but the bike has not been tuned, and it's for a Multi1000ds with just open air box,

my GT has termi and TPO beast R, afterwards it runs so rich that the second I turn the bike on, the whole WORLD smell like gas. and the MPG drops from 38ish to 25ish

would that make any difference?

I don't think so.

You could try unplugging the PCIII and see if it starts better.

If it were me I'd have it plugged in on a battery tender if I needed to use the bike in temps below freezing.

that's what i have to do now,
i plug the battery tender but still
bike woudl crank so many times, and turn over and over then
drains the battery.

then I wait another 30 mins for it to charge up. then after few tries,
it will finally turn on:(
so sad....

Have you had the battery load tested?

Maybe you got a bad one.

It might be time to have the bike looked at. Your PCIII may be causing the cold start problem

If the starter motor is turning the engine over fast enough you have another problem.  At some point the battery will run down if the bike cranks over without starting.  TPS set?  Spark plugs in good shape?  Throttles synched?  Temperature sensors working correctly?  POlease have the battery load tested before replacing it.

+1 on what DuckStew said, but if the motor turns over but not fast enough I would be looking at all the cables and connections from the battery and to the starter motor, if they are dirty, loose or corroded then this will create a higher resistence making the battery work harder when those sorts of temperatures work against the battery.

This won't hurt much.... Trust me......

Overly rich system? Did you check the plugs? They could be fouled pretty bad, causing intermittent spark when starting?
