It's been just about 5 weeks now, and I'm glad to say I'm healing up pretty well. The ribs no longer hurt when I lie down, and I've got about 85% mobility in the shoulder. I've actually started light weight training again and expect to be at 95-100% by New Years.

As promised I'm posting photos of the aftermath. Photos of the bike are included now.

Looks like you took some damage.  Are you going to replace all of those items now that you wrecked in them?  I have those same boots actually.  When I had that lowside on the oil, I saw a lot of scraping that had occured on my boot.  If I was not wearing full boots, I think I would have took some damage on my leg too.

Man, lucky you slid the way you did. Based on the rash the jacket has, if you'd have been sliding on your hips and thighs... oh my.

I'm glad my jacket recommendation turned out to be a solid one. I'd have felt really crappy if your coaster had blown apart and not done it's job. You going to look at some beefier gloves?

Back when I was a younger squid than I am now, a bridge joint took me out and broke my foot peg off. Put a very nice hole in my jeans that is nearly identical to the one in Autohag's photo (and I assume yours). I had on tennis shoes as I did the not-so-smart thing of buying a bike with no gear other than a helmet.

I'm not condoning this activity, I'm just pointing out that holes end up in weird places and don't necessarily end up leading to huge gashes in your flesh.

Brian gets extra credit for having boobs plastered all over his bike, and for having peculiar graham cracker treats.

DAMN!!  I completely forgot about still having one of those in my backpack.

Definitely. The jacket might be repairable, but why risk it when I can get reimbursed.

Ya, I'm definitely getting that jacket again. And, yes, all leather gloves for now on. In fact, I'll be wrapping myself in all leather for now on.

Just make sure you've got the arm band code figured out before going. Don't need any accidental riding crop incidents to add to your injuries...

A final update... See the OP for a link to photos (including the bike).

It's all said and done. The bike is gone and I've been compensated for loss of property (including gear).

The shoulder is still not 100%; I guess I was a little too optimistic back in December. It's hard to say if it will ever be 100% at this point. I missed a whole season of ice hockey due to this injury, and it still (occasionally) wakes me up at night if I roll over in my sleep. So I am still dealing with a separate claim for pain; it'll probably take a while and I won't be fairly compensated. But it's the principle keeping me motivated and the fact that I need PT anyway if I want to heal.

Some things I've learned from all this:

- File property and medical claims separately. File for property right away and get that taken care of. Every day that goes by your property is worth less (duh, right).
- It's hard to prove an injury is a result of a accident when you engage contact sports, particularly when you're 37 years old. Apparently I'm too old to play. make the beast with two backs my culture.
- Doctors won't write you a prescription for whatever the hell you want. Darnit.
- Not all insurance companies suck, but Nationwide most definitely sucks when they're not on your side.
- Ensure that at least one of your best friends becomes a lawyer when s/he grows up.

On a more positive note, the days are getting longer and I have a new bike in my future! And, really, I didn't miss any riding as it's been so damn cold this winter.

Glad to hear/see that things are working out on that front.

Sorry your shoulder is still bothering you; hope it gets better with time and therapy.  Looking forward to seeing what the new bike will be.  Keep us updated.
