Just to confirm:

Does the tach needle work?

If it does, check the speedo pick-up & wire on the swing arm.

Hint:  There's only one wire on the swingarm.
Tach works fine.  Where does the speedometer connect ...doesn't it connect to the front wheel somewhere ?

Scratch that, it "should" sweep regardless.

I'm out of ideas.    ???

I thought the speed sensor was located on the front wheel ?? If there's a wire on the swing arm it must attach to a sensor where ...on the swing arm ?

I don't think this is the problem, but:

It's on the rear swingarm. Follow the wire or look near the brake rotor bolts.

Ok, my cluster did sort of the same thing on my 620, but the needle was stuck on 11000 rpm when it wasn't even running.

Took it back to the dealer and he said the gauge cluster had a common problem with all current (before 696) Monsters. He pointed to a S4R and said that one needed to be done too.

He took it off and put a new one on, under warranty.

So, take it back to be replaced.

UPDATE: Just got off the phone with my local Dealer /Service Mgr. , he finally returned my call. He said he was going to order a new gauge package, that they can't be fixed........so much for that story for now. Just have to wait for Ducati which we all know might take 'til Thanks Giving.
