10+ inches of snow on the ground. the new 3series xDrive sedan is just tearing it up. Climb a large hill? no problem.
Running Dunlop high performance snow tires as well.
My now defunct (bad transmission-couldn't handle the speeds and hills) Acura MDX on highly rated M&S couldn't come close to what this car can do.

If you're in the market for a new car

BMW 3-series with xDrive is highly recommended!

For full disclosure:

are you sure it doesn't have to do with the fact that you are actually using snow tires?  that makes a heck of a difference between snow tires and "all season" or "all season extreme" tires.

Raux

I'm sure that helps, all Germans around here use snow tires. I had people staring at me as I drove up the hill today, so I think they even were impressed.
The BMW comes with Traction control that is just incredible.
I can push it around corners and it just goes where it is supposed to.

all in all, i think it's a combo of a lot of things
xDrive
Traction control
great winter tires

matt922

i take it this is your first awd car with snow tires?

sbrguy

even a rear wheel drive car with good dedicated snow tires will work very well in snow.

but your xdrive will work even better since it has all wheel drive and snow tires on it.

i used to have a bmw 3 series and with snow tires on all 4 wheels it was as good or better than any front wheel drive car in the snow. but with all season tires on it, it sucked in the snow, and summer tires you literally wouldn't move in 0.25 inches of snow.

 [laugh]

could you just play along that I'm not a total idiot :(

seriously though. I have driven AWD with snow tires before. AWD with M&S and lock up.

but the combo of the snow, awd, traction control, abs is a first for me.

but no, a rwd car with snow tires, won't make my hill.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

So you actually have this car  [thumbsup] [drool]

Congratulations!

Just remember 4WD doesn't help stopping faster :o

I have been through most weather conditions, driving various cars and I laugh in the face of winter. It's fun and keeps me awake. My experience is that good (Nokian Hakapelita!) tires are most important, then comes all the techno help you can get your hands on. My favorite was a Millitary Gelände Wagen, all three diffs locked, going up a ski jump hill (my platoon commander wasn't very happy, but that's another story)(I told him it was an Everest thing, but he still didn't understand)

I like Beemers but if you want fun in the snow, Subies are the way to go!!!

Look at this vid

When I was a teenager, I had a Ford Escort with a manual transmission, and when it snowed in Pennsylvania, I would go out driving for fun.  Never got stuck.  That car was great in the snow.  Now I have a Subaru Impreza.  Thing was great in Park City, Utah during Thanksgiving.
Ahh... but the servant waits, while the master baits.

Any car with  sufficient ground clearance will go in the snow with those tires.

Raux

Yeah I need to look for a set for the family van.

Where's Cyrus to tell you all that snow tires are stupid and you don't need 'em?
