Me and the spousal unit saw it yesterday Christmas afternoon and it kicked ass. I was a nay sayer at first thinking you don't make the beast with two backs with great John Wayne flicks. But when I saw who was doing it and who was playing in it I held it in check. Let's just see. It got kick ass reviews so I said sure why not, let's fight the insane Christmas day movie nuts. Hit the show last night, wasn't too bad of a crowd. And absolutely loved the movie. Bridges does a great job. Sure, I know nothing, but that could be an Oscar performance. He's got the old drunk act down and plays a great crusty, no bullshit, shoot 'em dead Marshall. The girl does a really good job too. And Damon does a nice job in a non-star billing role and does it well. Jeez, do the Coen Bros. do anything bad? Didn't think so. When it comes out on dvd I'm getting it!

Everyone in it was great. Damon, Bridges, the girl (Hailee Steinfeld), Barry Pepper...Goes in the DVD collection with Tombstone and Open Range.

I want to go see this remake, I remember the original. How is the violence level of this modern adaption?

It's got cowboys with guns in the old west. People get shot. Everyone that gets shot usually deserves it. The law "he needed killing" still applies in Texas! I'd take our soon to be 14 year old boy to see it no problem. My wife and I really liked it.

Saw it last night.  Meh.  Maybe I just didn't get it.  Never saw the original.  No way would I say that it ranks up there with Tombstone.  Just my 2 cents.

I was on the fence too.

From the time I first heard about it 6 or 8 weeks ago, up until about 5 or 10 minutes into the movie.

At that point I could tell I was going to like it.  I just couldn't tell how much at that point.

Best movie I've seen in quite some time.

I'll definitely be buying this one at some point.  Might even go see it again in the theater.

I'm currently reading the novel.

It's a fairly easy read and very engaging.

Funny tho, I hear John Wayne and Kim Darby in my head as I process the dialogue.

Maybe I'll end up giving it a look when the book is finished.

The books are nearly always better than the movies.
