Urals look like BMWs with all the pretty rubbed off.  They're not really all that bad but when you look at them up close you can really see they are communist copies of old beemers.

I know... commie copies of the old Beemers.  I don't like that aspect of them... but the utilitarian aspect, and the fact the Russians tend to build everything like a tank is appealing for rural-area use.  If I lived in town and just wanted a shiny toy with a sidecar, I'd go for an old BMW.  But... same reason I sold the SS: I wouldn't want to ruin a pretty thing out here in the country.  Hence, the ugly communist bike would be preferable for my situation.

9/25/10 Crashed red 1098 approx 5 miles south of Vernonia on HWY 47.

I rolled past the wreck, a couple of ODOT trucks were there, there was another bike parked next to the 1098, and both riders were walking around. It was on a fairly straight stretch of road, but it looked like the 1098 ran off the road.
