4 years ago today I had an unfortunate breakfast dining experience at the Peter Pause restaurant in Schenectady, NY.  Halfway through my meal an old Italian man sits down at the counter a few stools from me.  He proceeds to complain to the owner about how this was the WORST day of his life.  I'm now interested in this man's misfortune, so I decide to eavesdrop.

What terrible event could have happened to this old man?  Did his wife of 50 years pass away?  Was he diagnosed with incurable ass cancer?  I'm truly concerned for a fellow human being at this point.  He looks at the owner and says... (and I quote)...

..."I can't believe we're celebrating god damn Martin Luther King day.  WORST day of my life!"

I should have been angry but I was just plain dumbfounded.  Besides, were I to fill a tube sock with oranges and start making juice on this guy's head, I doubt he would see the light.

So on this MLK day I raise a tall glass of OJ for all the haters out there - May you all see the light (lest you be juiced in a dark alley)

It's like I keep saying:  Those who would sacrifice a free range session for a giant beer, deserve neither free range time nor a giant beer.

Because of MLK and the unsung heroes that abby mentioned, I am able to live and work in the manner I do today. I personally owe them a debt of gratitude.

Unfortunately in the corporate world they don't share the belief that we should all celebrate this day.

There's no "holiday" a Rican would not take, but unfortunately anyone working for AT&T has to work.

I am proud to be a naturalized American Citizen. When I first emigrated here in 1985 from the UK I had no idea of the struggles that went on with the civil rights movement. I was completely shocked. I grew up in a multiracial, multicultural society (London)and did not know any different. Thank you , you wonderful people who stood up for what was right and changed the way the country lives. [bow_down] Thank you for saying NO to discrimination and hate.
just my 02.....

No hate but enough is enough, The last I checked I never owned a slave.  I noticed no one mentioned reverse discrimination,  Sharpton and Junior come to mind. [bang]
