Odd Question: Weapons Bag
«
on:
January 20, 2011, 09:20:49 AM »
I practice martial arts. Namely, Aikido and Iaido. I have a bag of weapons that I have to take to and from class. Because of this, in the summer I don't ride to the dojo because the weapons bag is long and narrow. Maybe the size of a rifle bag, if not a wee bit longer.
I carry my uniform in my backback but I cannot safely carry the weapons as well on the motorcycle.
I was wondering, does anyone have any suggestion or ideas of a SAFE way for me to strap the weapons to my bike? Or am I doomed to public transportation when I go to class?
Thanks! =)

Can't you carry 'em across your back? Or am I missing something?
Otherwise, I'd take at shot at strapping 'em securely to the grab handle and the passenger rearset so that the bag is vertical. And don't go into any underground parking lots with 6' clearance.

I saw a guy who had made a bracket and attached it onto his hard case that latched onto the passenger peg and had a bracket that crossed the bike to the other side for this hard case for his golf clubs....surely something similar can be rigged with some ingenuity and sweat and creativity.

Google is good:
If a scooter guy can make it work, but you can't... well son, I'm gonna have to confiscate that motorcycle of yours.

To be honest this is what I was sort of thinking. I just don't want to do a perm mod on the bike because although I go to class nearly every day, I enjoy the aesthetics of the bike naked.
I can't carry a weapons bag plus the backpack. Further it would slung so far over my head in that position to be a danger to driving. I live in Chicago so I get A LOT of stop and go, taxi cab drivers who want to kill me every year... etc.
P.S. Not a "son".

Custom weapons can be made to break down and reassembled like a pool cue. If it is done right by a good craftsman with solid screw seats it would work. Or if it is just practice wood you might be able to get the hardware from a pool cue supply and do it yourself. I used to have a set of chucks that broke down to 6 inchs each.

But saying "Well girl..." just doesn't give the right tone.
The setup I linked wasn't permanent... the basket could be bolted unbolted quite easily with just a small mounting tab left on. I honestly think your best bet for something like this is to get something fabbed up custom to hold the bag you have...

How about something along the lines of the surf board 'hooks' you see all over Asia on the scooters and bikes?

hence why I was suggesting one of those hard cases for golf clubs that people use for airline flights...they can be weatherproof, and protect your stuff in the event of someone deciding to make your day not so pleasant...and almost all the bits of it can be made onto the case itself so there is little to no remnant left on your bike for when you aren't using the case....and besides, as a golf clubs flight case, it would be lockable AND be below the radar to curious eyes and hands thinking of weapons accessability....

Bokken, Jo, and Iato. Not a good idea to do that with those kinds of weapons. But a good idea for others. =)

Bet most people don't walk up to their Monster and scratch their head wondering where they're going to put a crap load of WEAPONS!!
That thought made me laugh - thanks!!
This Samurai guy is wearing his uniform and carrying his weapon on his back:
option 2:
Though I think it's really his cowboy boots that complete the Samurai look.
