DMG/AMA tire test...

...so there is this racing organization that has like some tire testing and whatnot in the offseason...LOL
http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2011/Jan/110119hayestest.htm
and Hayes ( the current SBK champ) had this lil blurb to say...
Quote
...After the rain delays and track configuration issues, testing was slowed when, inexplicably,
a Harley-Davidson motorcycle suffered a mechanical failure, resulting in engine oil on the race track.
This slowed down proceedings....
geee...imagine that...a Harley leak oil?!?!?!...what the hell was that thing doing on the track in the 1st place? (unless it was one of those bastardized XR1200's they are trying to have a race series with-which if it was, then it should have had a race bellypan to catch the oil)

they still have those stupid external oil tanks that could lose a hose or something and drain out. i dont think a belly pan could catch that much oil...

fwiw, it's really just the dunlop tire test. the ama/ama pro racing doesn't organize it.

semantics....the guys out there representing the tire company are an organized division of the company executing a singular task for the greatest good of the racing in all aspects...
howz that?!?!?!

One of my all time favorite "HD leaking oil" stories was from when I was in high school and a buddy and myself skipped out to make a chip/cold drink run to the nearby 7-11. Out front of the 7-11 was a Harley puddling up oil. Mind you this was very early 70s. We're standing there laughing and out comes the adult HD owner. My friend pops off "Dude, your Harley is bleeding oil." To that the guy responds, "It's supposed to. Harleys make so much horsepower and have so much compression the factory can't make engine cases tight enough to contain the oil." We make the beast with two backsing busted out laughing so hard my sides still ache!!!
To that my friend says that was the biggest bunch of bullshit he had ever heard and that Harleys were pieces of shit. Can't believe the guy didn't kick our teenage asses right there. But he just fired back a make the beast with two backs you kids and after about 10-12 kicks he finally got it running and limped away. With us still laughing hard. It was so funny I think we forgot to go inside for the chips and cold drinks.
End of threadjack...
Sorry, anytime someone mentions Harleys and oil leaks in the same sentence I flash back to that day.
