One of the most loaded questions that can be posted on a motorcycling board is, "What are you paying for insurance?"

It's almost as bad as "What's the best oil to use?" or "What tires should I be using?"

There are a lot of variables in determining what you'll end up being quoted for a policy: age, zip code, riding history, accident history, current policy status, marital status, etc., etc.
And yet, people will still compare themselves to another who may be paying a much lower (or higher) rate.  Even if that person lives halfway across the country.

Foremost had one of the highest premiums when I was shopping for a new policy a couple of years ago.
Just because Ducati NA and Foremost announced a "partnership" doesn't necessarily mean a better rate for the majority of people on the board.
It doesn't hurt to get a quote,of course, but I personally wouldn't have high hopes for getting a much reduced rate.

Out of curiosity, Murduc, who was your carrier before the switch?

I got a price quote and mine is 150 cheaper per year.  150 is gas money.  Furthermore, I decided to switch because of they offered (free of charge) the following coverage that my existing insurance did not:

  • $1,500 coverage for damaged gear - helmets, gloves, jackets, etc
  • $3,500 coverage for damaged accessories vs. $1,000 in my current insurance

[cheeky] Just imagine, Joe could have easily gotten his Ducati branded gear replace for that  ;D

I'm gonna look into this tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up MurDuc.  [thumbsup]   Like Red said, doesn't hurt to try.

+1 on what Red posted. It's a relative situation specific to the individual circumstances -- like comparing apples and oranges. But I'm all for saving money so I'll give it a shot.  8)

Thus my elaboration in the original thread.  [thumbsup]

Switched today.
$311 for the year. :D
Full Coverage/ $250 deductible/ 2003 M1000S/ 37/ Single/ Clean record/ Great credit/ 16 yrs Moto Exp./ Texas rural.

Only thing I waved was personal medical stuff. I have good medical at work.
Plus those coverages are ludicrously low payouts anyway. Especially for the amount they increase your policy. [roll]

I wasn't carrying Full with Geico, but their quote today for the same coverage was over $600.

The coverage at Foremost also includes Towing, Roadside assistance and Trip interruption coverage.
*edit* They also include Safety Apparel coverage, and you can add Aftermarket/Optional Parts coverage.  :o

Just an update.

I got my policy papers today.
Apparently my rate might get even lower. The credit report they got, had a ding for some debt that shouldn't be there. It wasn't a big deal but it was just enought to knock me out of Tier 1 (just under 720). I had it corrected couple weeks ago at TransUnion but apparently it cropped up on Equifax which is what they used. So I need to send a dispute to them as well.

Anywho, to elaborate on some of those nice included coverages Foremost provides:

In addition to Towing and Roadside Assistance, Trip Interruption coverage kicks in if you are over 100 miles from home and suffer a collision loss that renders the vehicle non-op.
Trip Interruption pays up to $500 max per occurrence. Breaks down as up to, $100 per day lodging, $50 per day meals, and $50 per day transportation, during the 4 days following the incident.

Optional Equipment coverage is included at no cost for up to $3500 for direct and accidental loss to optional equipment on the vehicle. More coverage can be added, I believe. This is payable for any instance that is covered under your regular policy terms.  ie. Comp if you carry Comp. Collision if you carry Collision.

Helmets and Safety Apparel coverage is included at no cost for helmets and any other apparel specifically designed to minimize injury resulting from motorcycle accidents. This pays up to $1500 without application of deductible for gear worn by you or a passenger. Collision loss will be paid if collision coverage is provided.

Also noticed in the policy that if you have a stolen vehicle recovery system (LoJack) and it meets their requirements they'll waive up to $500 of your deductible for theft.

A couple very nice bennies in there worth checking em out for.
Plus the aforementioned reclassifications.

That is all.
