What are they, big packing glands??
I've worked on equipment that had packing glands that big.

Couldn't say. All I know is they're called "fan hubs " 

Wide open for tolerances except the bore, +/- .001"

I assume the retain a bearing or seal on a shaft that wont allow the retainer to fit over the end.

Just a guess though.

A quick update-

Things are super busy at shop.  I have two main customers and both want to increase their level of business with me.  One of them by double.  Id guess the other to follow suit.

We signed paperwork on Wednesday to buy another lathe and 12' bar feeder.  New this time, not used.  

I have 2 parts that are repeat orders every month that will very likely last years.  My customer wants to have us do the mating part to those which would double the part volume and dollar volume as they cost the same.

We ordered another Mazak.  An 8" chuck model this time.  QTN200 and an FMB 5.65 bar loader to go behind it.  

Material comes in 12' long and we saw it into 4' lengths to fit my machine.  The new bar loader will accept the entire 12' bar (a bunch of them actually) and when the machine has made all it can from it, it will retract the remnant, eject it into a tray, load the next bar and move it into the cutting position in about 30 seconds.

The lathe will basically look this this-

This thing should kick some serious ass.  I should have asked if it comes painted black with flames :D

So ive done my part to stimulate the economy and create jobs (1-2 probably) :)
