Just?

Back to a more machining related note, been working in a material called Nitronic 50.  We had zero issues turning it but the mill work is killing me.  Id guess we have probably 15 hours into milling a shape that otherwise should take under one :o

It's a one pc order and I'm pretty sure it's an oil field part.

I would definitely do the job again, but I'd want to find a better way to do the milling.

Glad every job isn't like this one :D

Yeah, 304 isn't even close to Nitronic 50 ;)

We had no issues turning it, that went great. One it went in the mill, though, it became the debil

I see the list the chemical properties.

They're misleading.

N50 is really made from compressed evil :D

More fire engine manifold today.

Working on the underside of the top half.

I remember doing a job in S-7, had to mill a 1/2" by 1 1/2" slot 2" deep.
1/2" diameter 3 fluted solid carbide endmills, about a 30* helix. They would last for 10 hours, 40 minute cycle time (multiple set-ups on the machining center table, put a blank in fixture 1 remove finished part out of fixture 4), figure about 15 slots in tool steel. Don't remember the rpm, the feed was 10 to 15 ipm, sounded like a wood router.  [evil]
A conclusion is the place you got tired of thinking

Looks like January will be the best month in the history of the company :D

Schedule is pretty packed for the next couple months and I'm continually trying to add more where I can.

On the phone with one of my good customers "Oh, by the way Andy says thanks for all the on time deliveries and perfect quality.  He says for me to load you up with so much work you can't take on anymore work from anyone."

Andy's dad owns the company

8)

Starting to look at more machinery as well.  Probably won't be this year we buy anything (unless I find another deal like I did on my mill) but I like to plan far ahead.

One of the limitations is the size of the hallway to our shop.  I've been looking at some big lathes.

Like 80 horse power [evil]

I've been told I'm allowed to cut the roof open to crane equipment in :D

if you're going to make the hole, at that point you might as well install a large hatchway for future use too.
probably pay for itself by the third time you'd open up the roof and have to patch it up afterward
