M900 exhaust

I have a 2000 M900ie.  Stock header, aftermarket mufflers - high pipes.  I believe that I prefer low pipes. 

It appears that these mufflers were low pipe slip on's, and someone added tubing to make them into high pipes.  I suspect that they could be easily modified back to low pipes.

I wonder if two mufflers are necessary.

There are some dirt cheap stock exhaust systems on eBay.  I'm wondering if there is a factory 2 into 1 system that either fits and/or can be modified to fit my bike. 

It appears that soon after the 2000 model year, the flanges changed due to four valves.

Could I graft my (cylinder head) ends to a set of 4 valve headers?

This is not something that I'm going to do in the near future, but something that I'll be thinking/scheming about for a while.

Have new tires mounted (Pirelli Angel's), and am changing the belts.

No - there were still 2v Ducs being made in 2001, and still being produced today. The 900 went away after 2002. The flange is the same on all the 900s AFAIK.

Not straightforward.   The 2v heads have the exhaust port offset to the left from the center.  The 4v heads have that port dead in the middle.


Additionally, any 2v header won't work because they have different lengths to accommodate the different motor configurations.

2:1 systems are rare for Monsters.

No FHE with 'em, but they seem to be loud and make a bunch of work tuning the mixture.

I was looking at some of the new stuff with the servo driven valve (or whatever it is). 

A couple of them look pretty efficient, and I was considering scoring one, cutting it ahead of the valve and running a single pipe to a muffler.

If there will be tuning and noise issues, I'll just keep what I have and/or convert it back into a low muffler (stock looking) deal.

B) It will help me see if there's a pretty nice and quick solution for you

cool man. I might have some low mount reverse megs become very available in the meantime. Cosmetically so-so, but I think easily remedied. And seeing pics of what you got might make it easy to explain, if possible, how to undo what's there and go back to what you want.
