I just watched a 2 disc set of a DVD of David Gilmour " Live at the Albert Hall "

He had Richard Wright ( Pink Floyd's Organist ) playing Organ and singing .

I didn't know any of the other guys in the band but they were all very 1st rate.

It's kind of amazing how many different musical instruments David can play.

To see him wailing Pink Floyd licks on a Saxaphone ...or picking along on a 12 string Banjo.

David did have Crosby and Nash there singing on a couple of songs from his latest CD "  On an Island " which he included in the live performances ...as well as Pink Floyd Favs on which David Bowie sang on 2 of them.

The light show was tremendous...at times it looked like the end of the world !

The backstage, back home, studio scenes and travel filming were as good as the live performance filming I thought.

Like any good " Musical Icon " worth his salt, at 64 he has a pretty , younger wife.

Her name is Polly and manages to be in most of the film other than the live performances.

Plus there were a lot of performances from different tour venues across Europe that David Gilmour and his Band did.

I would give this 2 disc DVD set 5 *****.

I would give David Gilmour a rating of ....Genius !

hmmm, mental note on this one
That would be another good thing to pick that both my wife and I can enjoy, then again we have almost the same wide ranging tastes so almost everything I get is a win.
Definitely be looking for it in BluRay as the sound quality is usually amazing that way.  [thumbsup]

ive stated before how big of a fan of floyd i am, but david gilmours pink floyd just isnt the same as syd barrett's or roger waters pink floyd. The things that waters came up with is the reason why everybody loves the music. syds stuff is really amazing too, Almost childish and innocent even though its on the verge of falling apart and revealing its true motivation. Pink floyd is the music that has shaped my life and would not be sitting here today if it wasnt for it. It started me playing guitar 15 years ago which led me to play in a band where i met my wife, had kids, moved here, and bought my bike. the whole time floyd has been the soundtrack. Ive seen waters 3 times and many countless tribute bands. ive gotten a huge tattoo on my back of the screaming face from the wall, and ive named my first son barrett after syd. I found out the day after i settled on his name that syd had died that night, kind of wierd i think, also the day after i got married i read the newspaper in my hotel room and it happened to be the 1st anniversary of his death.but i digress...I have the dvd and I think its pretty good

I went through a phase where I was pretty obsessed with Pink Floyd. Hell, my high school thesis / dissertation was on The Wall.

Still love the Floyd. Gilmour has a sound all his own.  [thumbsup]

I have to admit, however, that my favorite Floyd is the period from Wish You Were Here through Final Cut.

That's amazing .....that she is writing 1/2 his lyrics .

They sound just like what David would write to me.

Thanks for that info mother.

Jesus,

If you appreciate Genius ....and music ( and I know you do ) this DVD is superb !

It's not pretentious at all which is one of the great things about David Gilmour ...and his band.

Disc 2 has a lot of back stage and travel video that is really interesting.

I can't think of a better muscian after seeing this DVD !

I too have loved Floyd from Ummagumma back in the late 60s.

The difference to me is in this DVD you are seeing a Genius musician at work in his late 50s.( filmed in '06-'07 )

In the early years we saw the birth of a band full of life , energy and experimentation.

A lot of us who were around back then were as the band was.

It was all new , alive and full of energy.

It took us places we'd never been before.

David is now like a bottle of fine wine.

Aged to perfection.
