I've had a small but continuous oil leak for a while on my M600, and finally got around to investigating it.

Removed front sprocket cover, then front sprocket and the clutch slave cylinder. Finally tracked it down to the sidestand mounting hole in the engine block. It seems to be a blind hole, with an insert (steel threaded insert to protect alloy block?)

Odd to have oil coming though a simple mounting hole. I've stopped it for the time being by wrapping some ptfe tape around the bolt when I refitted it, but I'm not confident that this will last long.

Any one else had this issue, or know how to stop it?

It sounds like they drilled a little too close for comfort to an oil galley or it has developed a hairline crack. If still under warranty get it looked at. If not, you may have to live with the thread tape and having to redo it, as the "real" repair will be a bit costly.   Sad

Any way to get access to a bore-scope to get a better look in there? If it is a crack it will need to be addressed as it will only get worse.

I'd have another look around.  I recently had an oil leak fixed in that general area.  Oil was collecting on and around the side stand - and at first I had a paranoid thought that it was coming out of that same hole. 

Though it was being very sneaky about it, the leak was between the alternator cover and the main case.  It was working it's way down the nooks and crannies.  It took running the bike a bit on a stand and probing with q-tips and paper towels to track down the real source.

It sounds like you have check that area out - but give it a 2nd go.  As I found out with my problem - it's not uncommon for ducs to develop a leak where mine did.

Like Yuu said, only also the o-rings on the clutch push rod will fail too, and oil will seep out past the clutch slave cylinder, run down the crack between the block and the alternator cover, and collect at the sidestand bolt.

Essentially any oil leaks on the duc motor behind the front edge of the vertical cylinder, and to the left of the clutch cover end up collecting at the side stand bolt.

+1 to leaks in other places appearing to come from the sidestand.

Oil from a leaking shifter shaft seal ends up there too.




And I doubt it's still under warranty.  It's a 600.

Those holes do not usually have a helicoil insert in them something does not sound right . clean everything well and then use some spray powder on the area in question. run the bike for a bit and be sure to get the oil hot and splashing around. Then shut the bike off and lean it on the sidestand, then look for the wet spot in the powder.
