Your link is incomplete, and that is a subscription service.
I can't see it.

Here is the actual story:
http://www.wsoctv.com/news/26927619/detail.html
I've been on that road many times, it's busy and cramped, you can't let your guard down at all as a motorcyclist or car driver.

Authorities said Saturday Escobar was listed in serious condition; her husband was listed in critical condition. Monday morning Escobar's condition had been upgraded to fair. Hospital officials said Morales was no longer in the system.
Not being in the system is so...
ambiguous.

Kinda weird, you'd think the bike would have looked a lot worse than it did.

Kinda weird, you'd think the bike would have looked a lot worse than it did.
upper is gone, rear tire is off the rim, left side fairing is peeled back, subframe is broken off, tank is no longer on the bike...
it doesn't exactly look "good"...
what surprises me is that, despite the wheelbase being shortened, the front wheel is still "intact".

So the way the story
reads
is that the bike was going way too fast, and the car was paying way too little attention.
Unfortunately, this particular situation doesn't seem as rare as we'd all like...
Edit
: Emphasis added so as not to judge till all the facts are in. (Cue Gen. Buck Turgidson voice.)

Ugghh.... that didn't make me feel good. And it can happen to anyone.
I have a similar story, when I was on a 4 lane (2 each way) road, maintaining my speed of 45mph. Right lane. The right lane ends up being a turn/merge lane to get on the interstate. I noticed a gap in the left lane where traffic was stopped at a light. I began to roll out of the throttle a bit (it's a NICE merging corner to the right, lots of room to play) and cover the brake. Sure as make the beast with two backsing shit some dumb #$(%# decided that since the one lane of cars had stopped to let her through (from the opposite direction) she just came on over.
Even anticipating a bone-headed move from a clueless driver, I nearly T boned her. I thought for sure I'd take out the bags (either the ride side on her bumper as I passed behind, or the left on the stopped car I was trying to get close with. Pissed me off bad enough that I went back to ask her if she ever looked or saw me. Topping it off, I got a bunch of attitude from this woman, telling me I shouldn't ride that "dangerous thing" if I didn't want to die.
Seeing shit like that pic above makes me question why I should continue to ride on the street. If anything it damn sure reminds me I'm not invincible....
You guys/gals ride safe, please.
