Kidney Stones

I just had a Kidney Stone attack last night.

I took a piss and then it started...

A dull pain in my lower left side at 1st , then shooting pain out the end of my Penis.

I thought I'd better get to the ER , I'd had an attack about 3 years ago on the very night that I crashed my bike and was only home from the ER for about 2 hours when it hit me ...I was taking Vicodin for my broken Ribs and other damaged body parts but it barely dulled the pain of the attack.

I passed the stone 4 days later.

Last night I didn't have any thing like Vicodin for the pain so I took 4 Advils and gutted it out .

I drank a lot of Gatorade thinking it might help move the stone along .

When I finally had to piss I still have the plastic expandable cup w, the screen in the bottom so I pissed in it and sure enough I pissed the stone out.

Any body else have problems w, the " stones " and have you found any way to either prevent them...or make passing the stones easier...today I'm hurtin' in the Kidney area.

Had the pain been as severe as the attack my 1st time ( when I was taking the Vicodin for my post crash injuries ), I don't think I could have driven to the ER had I not had something likke Vicodin. :(

Out of curiosity, why do you want to go through the trouble of peeing into a cup w/ a screen in the bottom and save the stone?

To mount that make the beast with two backser on his wall, next to his elk, moose and deer heads so he can tell the story of it's downfall.

Seriously, tho. Everyone I've ever known who's had/passed a stone described it as "the worst pain I've ever felt."

Such a tiny thing can bring a grown man to his knees. In the words of my friend Ed "It's like giving birth to a cactus through your wang."

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

Go through all of that and not have a memento?  Of the four I have had to endure, I was only able to keep one (the last).  They can also be analyzed for composition and a urologist can determine potential causes and therapies to reduce the possibility of forming more.

First one I ended up in the hospital because it got stuck between the kidney and the bladder.  A week of demerol and they ended up going in the hard way to snatch it.    I shook it loose after participating in a motorcycle rally through the southwest...1500 miles in two days.  A week after I returned home from the hospital and spent time convalescing at home, i went out for short ride and dropped my bike.

Second one I had a lithotripsy...early days of the procedure were they placed you in a steel tub and banged you with sonic pulses.  Had a demerol drip during the process (I recall a rubber duckie in the tub) and spent the night in hospital.

Third one was another lithotripsy, but by this time they used a special couch with bladders to transfer the pulses into the body.  Anesthesia put me out completely for the procedure, but was in and out of the hospital the same day.

Fourth one a couple years ago I passed at work after a day or two of mild pain.

They run in the family and by our experience, you passed two stones.  Pain in the urethra is only felt when passing a stone.

Never had one, but my aunt almost died from one about 15 years ago. It was between the size of a pea and a marble.

The 1st one I had looked like a small Spiny Sea Urchin.

This one was more shaped like a " Kidney ."

My Brother has had 2 of them in the last 7 years.

The 1st he passed.

The 2nd one the Dr. went in and got it.

I was scheduled to have my 1st one retrieved but crashed my bike 4 days prior to surgery day and then passed it on that day.

Next attack I'm going for the Dilaudid at the ER.

I peed in the cup w, the screen to be sure if I did pass a stone if it was very small I would see it on the screen...my pee was very bloody .

I really because of the general pain didn't feel it pass.

W, the screen I knew I had .

Pretty much nothing I've read in this thread sounds awesome.

At all.

My aunt has had to deal with kidney stones. I'm quite hoping they're one of those "life experiences" I can take a pass on.

Well, lemme tell ya...

Anything that can be filed broadly under "terrible pain" isn't covered under that definition.

;D

Some folk claim Evian water is good for reducing kidney stones by dissolving the calcium.  This claim has been around since sometime in the 1700s.

They are the the suck. I get them about once a year on average. The last bad one hit while driiving north to see my granddaughter for the first time. I drove for about 4 hours in pain before I was close enough to my destination to take a vicodin. I pretty much passed out when I got to my hotel room [laugh]
