What is This Wire?

I was installing the new viz tech brake light today, well my friend was installing it, but I was looking busy.  Anyway we were poking around and found this wire



Does anyone recognize it?  Can anyone tell me where it goes? Obviously it unplugged from somewhere but we couldn't find it.  To give perspective on the pic, the wire is on the dry clutch side.  It's not the foot brake light, we already checked that.  And the bike still runs fine.  I'm just afraid that it could have something to do with the Bat signal and well all of Gotham City could be in danger if that doesn't work.  Thank you in advance for making fun of me.

Obviously this was not found like this. I was just inside the frame but we pulled it out (gently) to get a better pic of it.  Thanks.

There is a hole in the rear of the right case with a center pin terminal inside.  It may be easier to insert the connector with needlenose pliers.  You may want to put some dielectric grease on the terminal to protect it from corrosion.

Yes you can get the dielectric grease at NAPA.

If you look at the back of the motor just slightly to the right of center, and just below the swing arm pivot, you should see the switch recessed in the case. About 3 or so inches to the left of that you'll see a large hex. That is the detent for the shift drum. In case you can't find the switch right away.

The parts diagrams available here... http://ducati.com/services/maintenance/index.do might help in finding things. Most Duc motors have the switch in the same location so don't worry about not finding your exact bike listed.
