So I heard from the Ins Co today and my bike is totaled. I'm gonna get a good amount for it and I want a replacement. There are a few I am looking at. One is a Brand New '08 1098S, black with the red frame and a full 2yr warranty. (very sweet!) and the other is an '09 1198S black with the gold frame and only 225 mi. I know there are several differences between the '08 and '09. (traction control, DDA, lighter wheels and 10hp) They are both around the same price $16k.

What is the concensus as far as which one is the better deal?

Duh!?!?!  There's no replacement for displacement!

1198 wins!!!!!   [moto]

What's the salvage value for the 996?  If the insurance folks will sell you the hulk cheap let me know and I'll see if I can scratch up some scratch.  Salvaged title or no, it's still quicker than a 900SS.   Evil

Ask the gang about my bikes...they are mint mint mint.  I will check, but I believe I even have an extended warranty.

$100?   Evil

Out of curiosity, do you still have the factory brake lever (front)?  JJ is looking for a replacement.

1198s so I can chase something better...Smiley  waytogo & Get your a$$ back from Italy soon or just stay back here!

Or Skinners bike...Can't beat that...He unloads his wallet and more onto his bike...Its a lot of additions and with that slipper clutch you are on the 1198s version minus traction control...But do you really need TC? Why don't you just get something worthy of good money and trade it in for Ducati's next real new BIKE in works...not the marketing stints..1098...1198...1198sp.. and what not... [moto]

Man that 996 should go cheap as salvage...I rode that bike and loved it...Scott has a good point..let us know, meaning not me...The Scott Man...My hands are full. My thoughts.

Ducduc,
I sent you a message.

Thanks

As far as the 996 goes, I already had a buddy from base ask about buying for a track bike. He has dibs first but if I can't get him to buy it, you guys are next. I'm not sure how much to ask as I don't want to insult anybody but I know it's still worth something. If you have offers, send me a message.

Does that mean you've kept the bike and they just wrote you a check?  Usually they want the salvage, but if not, that's extra cool!

I don't want to insult you, so I'd be more comfortable with you making an offer.  I can put together a number for what I think I could part it for (though that's not my intention) if I can take a look at it in its current condition, if that suits you.

Did the insurance folks give you a salvage value?  JJ....what was the salvage value on your 1098?

I forgot to mention, in addition to the after market items listed,  I also installed DID EVR gold chain, billet sprocket carrier, battery tender, Power Commander mapped and dyno'ed, exhaust heat shield (new in box),  have a Geza fitted cover, a pitbull front stand, AND...a DP race ECU (not yet installed...alone its over $900).

All stock stuff included, save for the clutch plates which I gave to kingbaby cuz I had the slipper clutch installed before I took it home.

oh....and two Pilot Pures mounted with less than 100 miles on em.

Tell them they can keep the "Training Wheels" parts on the 1198 & give you a red frame & blk wheels for it.  Or, just buy DDGM's. & know you made a good great choice.   waytogo

So I called USAA about insurance last night about my vehicles for when I go to Italy. Full coverage on my truck is gonna be almost $2000/yr. Needless to day I won't be bringing my truck with me over there. I asked about my bike too. My '07 Speed Triple is either going to be $900 for liability or $1800 for full coverage. OUCH!I asked about adding another bike (Ducati) and it would be the same amount as the Triumph. I'm not paying $3-4000/yr for ins for 2 bikes.

I think that just made my decision to NOT buy a replacement Duc for the time being because there is no way in hell I'm going to pay that much for ins. for 2 bikes while I'm there. That is ridiculous. So I will save that money while I'm gone and buy one when I get back. I really want a Duc but ins. would break me.

I say "Good call", Amigo.  No reason to feed the insurance company needlessly....and since you can't ride more than one bike at a time, anyway.....
