Ducpainter,

The WTF thread seemed to have been locked not because of the thread topic but because it ran off topic and turned into a squabble.

As I read the guidelines the intent of the rule on not restarting threads on topics that have been locked is to reduce the porliferation of innappriate topics or quarantine the thread.

And the topic of WTF pics in the NMC section is not inherently against the rules.

To deny a restart of a thread trying to re-establish the allowed and accepted topic because it went offtopic seems a little overboard on guideline interpretation.

Maybe I just don't understand  :-\

I think it was locked to allow a simmer down period.  That thread was going to continue in the direction it was going.  Hopefully it can be opened up later on and it can go back on track  [thumbsup]

I sincerely hope that this is the case. The WTF pics was one of my faves.
People are always gonna push limits. That's just human nature. Thats why there are moderators(and cops, etc.). To enforce the rules, and keep the peace.

YAY MODS!!! [clap] [clap] [clap]

Perhaps you haven't been around long enough to have seen threads get locked on TOB.

It's like this:

A friend comes to visit, and brings his kid.
Kid picks up a stick, and pokes your dog with it.
You ask him nicely to not do that.
He looks you square in the eye, and pokes the dog again.
You tell him to knock it off.
You turn your back, and he pokes the dog again.
You take the stick away.

Immediately starting another thread on the same topic is just like the kid going and picking up another stick.
That kind of thing pisses you off, and it pisses the mods off when it happens over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, with *adults*.

Also, it's best to send a PM to a mod if you've got a question on how things were handled.
Starting a thread to question a mod's decision is also a lot like the kid going and picking up another stick.

Finally, locking a restarted thread isn't an interpretation, it's enforcing something that is specifically prohibited by section 6.3 of the Forum Guidelines.

6.3  Members will not start a thread with the intent of continuing the topic of a thread that was closed or removed.

Try following the spirit of the law and not just the letter of the law.  Section 6.3 is not being applied correctly in this case.

The original thread was locked, not for its original topic but for the threadjack.  The new thread was following the original topic, which was perfectly ok.  Granted the pics did violate section 2.2 and those pics should have been removed but the thread not locked.

Try reading 6.3 again.
It's very simple and very explicit.
The application of it was correct.

The pics violated section 2.2 and SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSTED.
The thread violated section 6.3 and SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSTED.
