Yup, vacuum fuel pump. The line that goes to the "tube" from the engine is the vacuum end. If you decide to take this thing out, you gotta cap that hole or you'll have a vacuum leak. The OEM one on the '95 m900 was pentagon shaped. CA-Cycle works sells a rectangle shaped one that is made by the same company. I ended up dumping mine and putting in an electric pump.

If I go out there tonight. I will be up half the night thinking about it and stewing.

Just made that mistake myself. Don't do it!

Actually it is a fuel pump, it operates off of Crank case pressure from the forces of the piston going up and down. These types of pumps are used on things like the Evinrude Johnson 30 and 55 HP outboard engine and Golf carts like a Columbia or an EZGO. Here's a link.

I am wondering why the PO did not just get a new pump, and is there any benefit for having this type installed?  ....I have no idea but it looked like crap.  "I just looked at this post again...A golf cart freakin fuel pump in my bike....really!  Sarcasam to the PO"

Lol. It's not that bad of a pump and they're dirt cheap. Only about $30 shipped. You might have to tinker with your hoses though.

The only reason that I dumped mine and put in an electric pump was because I couldn't get my new one to work properly. I think I have a vacuum leak somewhere but it's not bad enough that the bike doesn't run but the pump craps out.  :( Oh well, I can still  [moto]

Wanted to give an update on my carb  and fuel pump status.

As of today the bike now starts up without the choke engaged!! Before I had to open the choke fully to get her to start and then let it warm up and slowly back it off. Last summer the wife told me my bike sounded like a lawnmower :(

But Today she sounded strong! I did have to set the idle a bit lower after it warmed up.

When I pulled the carbs out I did a thorough cleaning and installed a FP Jet kit from CA. Was allot easier than what I was thinking.

Oh yeah I did buy the fuel pump from CA as well..

So now I have another problem and I think I already know what it is after reading previous posts all day but wanted to give you guys a shout before tearing the carbs back out again...Man I should just get rid of the damn air box and put in pods.....Anyway.

The problem when the bike is idling I have gas draining out of the float bowl drain tube...My first question is about the drain screw itself...I am planning on taking it out and cleaning that portion since I did not remove those when I did my initial cleaning...Rookie mistake on my part.   Does that screw go all the way in and snug up to the carb? I am looking at it and there is about 3 threads left until it butts up!  But it feels snug.

But my first thought is a stuck float....I tried tapping it but it didnt seem to work.

The screw does not go in all the way.  Removing those screws to clean and inspect is certainly a good idea.  When you reinstall snug i8s good.

I think you're right about a stuck/dirty float.

You could try a little carb cleaner before you tear them apart again.

Would love to hear more about the electric fuel pumps at some point.  Like some part numbers, mounting, wiring, and photos.

I installed the after market vacuum fuel pump. So I cant help, but would also like to hear a bit more. Might be a good upgrade

Dood...

it's a simple 12 volt pump.

Get anything that puts out like 3-4 psi...

wire it up and...

put it where it fits.

I don't think you need an engineer.

How about easy?

Go to the local parts store and buy anything with the right size nipples.

It will work.

I use Delco pumps as they seem to work for years...and years...

and that's right...

years. ;D

They aren't necessarily cheap. ;)

how about size?   Are the Delcos compact?  I think that is a goal here.
