Will 749 Rims Work on a 695?

Well,

Will a 749 rear/front rim set-up work on a 695? Anybody ever try it?

I'm only asking because I would like to get some lighter rims, but I do not want to pay a huge amount of money for them (like OZ rims). The 749 rims seem to go for a fair price on eBay and I figured that since the bike is a DSSA I'd ask around.

Thanks!

Check the weight on your stock rim, and compare it the the weights posted here:

The stock 749/999 rims are pretty heavy

Yes, but it's not a direct swap.

The front wheel should slide right in, but depending on what year 695 you have, you'll need new brake calipers to go with the bigger 320mm rotors.

The rear wheel takes a bit more work. The wheel bearings are designed for a 30mm OD rear axle so you'll need to either have an axle sleeve fabbed up or swap out the wheel bearings to ones that have the same OD but a smaller ID. If the rear brake disc has a different offset (as it did on my Sport 1000) you'll need a new caliper and bracket, and a spacer to fit between the bracket and the wheel bearing to keep everything in place when you tighten down the axle.

Oh, and they only have 5 bolts on the rear disc (which triggers your speedo sensor) so there's that to deal with, too.

What are you looking to "cure" and what mods do you have now?

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

And a 5 bolt sprocket carrier as well

Most I saw on Fleabay were bare wheels, the carriers were another $75 or so
