Thoughts from the board on what the best purchase price and financing actual numbers would be from a dealer (Hattar Motor in Northern California) on a new 696?  I'd like to avoid the hassle normally associated with car buying experience - getting up and leaving a couple times, etc. bang head

Seems like the demand on a 696 may prevent me from getting much less than MSRP - thoughts?  MSRP $8775, out the door at about $10,350.  A couple folks in line for them, so they seem to have the pricing leverage if I walk.

Credit Union financing is at 9.99% on 5 years - A brief conversation with my dealer (Hattar) suggested that she could do better than 9.99% with a larger amount down.  That surprised me.  CU had in the past seemed to be better deals than dealers on financing without the hassle of wrestling with the dealers' financing ape.

Any idea what is possible from a purchase and financing range?  Stretching out the duration may allow me to finance in more of the mods I want now.  Is 7% at 84 months reachable with less than 10% down?  My math puts that at a minimum monthly nut under $200/mo with the flexibility to overpay when finances allow to be done faster than 7 years.  But, current econ climate suggests I should have as small a minimum monthly nut as I can.

Newbie, first bike.  I do have my heart set on the new 696.

They won't have a problem selling the bike without you. Don't look for them to move on the price.
See if they'll move on accessories / service cost.

Never finance toys.
7 Years?! Dear god, I didn't know they offered bike loans for that long.

Also, first bike? Every thought of getting some a little less expensive (Ninja 250, Suzuki 500, Old Used Bikes...) to drop?
Cause bets are -- you are gonna do it. Most of us have.

Insurance would be cheaper that way as well.

9.99% seems high.  Personally I'd finance for a shorter term and do the mods later.  I don't buy the "never finance toys" line, but I will say don't stretch to finance a toy.

Lots of people are going to tell you to get something smaller as well.  Get what you want.  I got a brand new M620 as my 1st bike and it all worked out just fine.

I agree, it is all in the situation, although, use the bike as a commuter then you wouldn't have to worry about it being a "toy."   waytogo   [moto]

Oh, and I say get a used bike, it wont hurt as much if you drop it....and most of us have been there.

I'd buy a M750 or a M620 if I was you.  You'll save thousands, have a nice bike, and can think on "upgrading" to a clean 696 in the future when they are more readily available and you can negotiate a more decent price.  chug

at that price with 2K down at that rate, after five years you'd have spent over 12.6 for the bike.

Get what will make you happy of course, as people's opinions here are worth what is paid for them  Grin

but less than 5K total for a very clean used 620 starts sounding like a really good option for a first bike.   And if you do it in cash, you won't be upside down on the loan when you ride away...something that can hurt quite a bit if the bike gets wrecked on a new, financed bike.

<hates sounding like a father bt can't help it>

enjoy it no matter what you decide.   chug

9.99 is way high!
if you are worried about the price, get another bike. I know you want this one... but wait a year, and there will be another one you want. so there will always be that unobtainable goal. My suggestion... get a shit kicker bike to ride around for a year... get some seat time.... save some cash... then in 7 months - a year, if you still lust for the 696... grab a used one. and sell the shit kicker for about as much money as you bought it for.

dude, you got it that far below MSRP? nice. they didn't make up much ground on the doc fees etc. that aren't so much givens on a purchase.  I wish the Los Angeles Dealers were as negotiable.

That is what I was getting at -- your going to be upside down on an entry level motorcycle for many years.
