M796 Suspension

Has anyone upgraded their 796's suspension yet?  I've read that they come from the factory configured for a rider of approx. 160lbs and I'm a lean 205.  Google only turned up a few pics of one with the DU737 rear (stock for the 08 696?).  Below is what I got from Ohlins;

"The DU 737 will work for the rear, and our service dept just developed (one off) a custom 30mm cartridge kit for this bike"

They're saying the front and rear together would come out to around 2300.  Still looking around / waiting to hear back from Showa/Marzocchi/Sachs before I make the call and was wondering what any of you may know.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can swap the front for sbk forks. I, along with many others have done this. It requires a few machined components but is pretty straight forward swap

I think the one-off 30mm cartridge kit they just developed was for hackers2r's S2R800. He just posted a thread about it. May be wrong though. However it doesn't matter, they're Öhlins they can pretty much do anything and if you can afford it rock on with 'em. It should be said, that GP Suspension in Portland, OR can do the same. You should call them and see. Also call Traxxion Dynamics, Race Tech, and Lindemann Engineering.

I don't think you are going to get anything done with Sachs, Marzocchi, or Showa.

SBK swap is a good choice as well, but more hassle. In the end if I had Öhlins on the front end and didn't have to do any triple-clamp machine work or go to clipons or endure any of the other hassles involved with SBK swaps I'd be stoopid happy. They could even anodize your forks black or gold for you while they're at it.

For the rear, you've GOT to give Penske a call. See about getting a rear shock built up with some ride height adjustment. New Monsters aren't adjustable like the older ones are. You would then have badass suspension.

Bitubo has a pretty nice looking cartridge kit for the classic monsters.  It might work in the newer ones as well.  http://www.ducatiperformance.com/bitubo-ducati-monster-620695s2r-front-fork-cartridge-kit-p-149731.html?cPath=22_29_156  They also have an assortment of shocks of course. Probably less $$ than Ohlins and its Italian.

the 796 i think uses the new marzocchi forks. they may be easier to upgrade the springs than the 696.
also you can just upgrade your spring in the rear also.

i think a rear spring costs about 100 and the fronts you'd have to check with kyle racing or somewhere.

it won't be a major upgrade on damping, but the spring rates will match your weight.

i still cant find what spring works in the back! i really really need to get this done. are people getting springs made? or ordering from ohlins?

good to see a 696 option, but, that is how much a 1098 set up will run you
