How to raise my bike?

Hey guys,

I've got an 06' m620ie. I bought the bike second hand and was told it had been lowered. The previous owner was the second owner, and was not sure exactly what they had changed to lower it... She thought that it has a cut down seat fitted, and perhaps something in the linkage changed. Its not causing much of a problem for me because I am only 170cm tall! But going over any gutters, in the garage over a step etc the exhaust header for the horizontal cyl sometimes contacts the ground because of the low clearance. Its only ever lightly rubbing, but still not ideal! I've also noticed now that I am getting more comfortable on the bike I am starting to drag the edge of the side-stand in some left hand corners. I figured perhaps lowering the 620 was a fairly common thing, and people might have an idea where I could look to check if it is reversible, and how? It would seem the triple clamps might have been dropped a little on the fork legs too. I've got about 2cm of fork up above the top triple clamp measured to the cap of the fork leg. If anyones got any ideas I'd love to hear em!  [thumbsup]

Perhaps... This looks like a prime suspect??



I assume that adjusts out at both ends? Both threads are completely backed down to the eyelets on mine. How do you go about adjusting that? Loosen the lock nuts and twist the link, or does it need to be totally removed. I'll have a look in the service manual and see if it has a "stock" setting I can work back to.

That's it...

if it will adjust without removing go right for it.

Keep in mind if you just raise the rear and not the front the handling will change.

You will want to do some measuring if you like the bike's handling the way it is.

That looks like an actual lowering link though.  You'll probably have to go quite a ways out to get back to stock height.

Hmm, it would seem you're right indeed. The link must be off another bike. Either way, I'm not too worried about getting it back to stock height. I just want to try and get it to a eight where I don't have to worry about gutter clearance or grinding the side stand. I've only ever ridden the bike in its current configuration so I'm not sure how I would like it if the forks were dropped a bit. I will just put them down say 1cm and see how that feels. Can always go back I suppose... Hopefully the adjustable link has a good range, could be a godsend its got that rather than a stock link!

If you're happy with the way it handles, try to copy that by raising it equally front and rear.
Measure, somewhere near the middle of the seat, what happens when you turn the rod one/two full turns.
Raise the front accordingly.

10mm should fix the problem.....
