I know...it's BARF. Heck it might even be posted here. Either way, it looks clean and I think you could talk her down.

That's asking a lot for a bike that didn't cost much more than that when it was new, and is 7 years old and three models ago. I bet the belts have never been done too. That said, it looks clean, those Remus pipe sound amazing and it's pretty low mileage.

The Monsters don't get a lot of attention on teh BARF's... I'll keep track of the thread but I'm pretty sure that it won't sell anywhere close to that. I bet it'll go for closer to $3,500, but AJ will have to wait her out. Like I said, I'm willing to track it. I the Classifieds mod, so it won't be a problem.

Thanks for thinking of me 'belle!!
The bike isn't listed here, but it has been on craigslist for several weeks with some additions to the description up on BARF, such as "carbon fiber pipes make it purr like a kitten (& set up car alarms as you go by)" - personally I prefer pipes that growl like a tiger, but I guess kitty mewing is ok. Especially since these pipes can apparently install car alarms.
The owner held an "open house" a couple of weeks ago but I didn't go cause Spidey's right about the $5k and in her Craigslist ad she says "no low balls (seriously, people, I know what I have)." So didn't bode well for negotiations. I hope you're right about the eventual $3.5k, maybe after some time on the market!
Also, while I *love* the pre-2009 monsters, I'm hoping to get a bike with ABS, and that puts me in 2010/2011 models. I know, I know, I should have the skills to never need ABS, but I simply don't trust myself to not lock a wheel in an emergency situation. Call me a noob, overly cautious for a moto rider, or just a brake ho, I don't deny it. And the little old lady in me (and my short little arms) loves the more comfortable & upright ergos of the newer models. My Asian half, however, hates the price tag of the ABS bikes that have peppered the market over the past few months, except for one that went too fast for me to snag it. I may have to suck it up, shell out the $$$$$ & head to the dealer, though, as my itty bitty Honda 250 is making freeway riding miserable. I was not happy after what should have been a glorious 120 mile ride on Sunday.
But enough of my whining, thanks again for the heads up, I do love the looks of the red classic monsters!!!!

Even the most experienced riders/racers can and will lock up their wheels when faced with a sudden and expected obstacle. ABS is a good thing.
P.S. What the hell is an "open house" for a moto?!? Does that chick think it's a Britten or sumptin'?

She knows what she has and your opinion isn't going to change that!
People that overvalue their old stuff are annoying. Especially those that will let it fall apart before they'll sell it for less then this fictional number in their head. Tried to buy a 56 Ford pick up and they guy wanted like 10k for a shell of a truck, no motor, no electrical or interior and wouldn't back down, it's been about 10 years and now it's just a junk pile sitting in his backyard. sigh.

Tell her to sell you her bike or you're going to kick her in the taco. That's what I tell Spidey and it usually helps me get my way with him. Not "my way" like he and Tigre, by you know what I mean.
And I dunno about being dead-set on ABS. My bike is from the stone age and I think it's pretty safe. The old nag will leave me on the side of the road without so much as a second thought, but it's tough to get her to buck me off.

Sounds like your bike and The Blonde are cut from the same cloth.

The MOB is a special place.
Full of love and Monsters and opinions and Astroglide.
It's a large part of why I love this board.

Wow, my list of topics to avoid is growing:
- Spidey's manpelt / qualification for International Mr. Bear 2011
- Spidey's taco
- Spidey & Tigre's astroglide reservoir

Ah but 'belle, in addition to being hilarious & awesome, you have shitloads more moto skillz than I do. Your bike would dump me off a cliff into the Pacific, and given that I'm three times your size, I'd drop like a (big bacon-eating) stone. I know I have a lot to learn & practice practice practice, and until I get to your experience level, I don't want to bite it cause I grabbed a fistfull of brake before I could think.

By the way, this sounds like it was spoken from experience - do you have any stories to share Mr. Crashin Mofo?

Spidey could highside a pedal-powered tricycle. He's not the one to ask. I've never seen anyone defy gravity like that little gnome.

Spidey can crash bikes without even riding them.
The Rossi vs. Stoner incident? That was Spidey.
As for ABS, it's a nice to have not a must have in my opinion. If you spend the time to periodically practice "panic stops" in a parking lot you will have the skills to avoid a lock-up.
