'00 M750 monster dark, carbie. Luckily it broke as I was coasting to my parking space in front of the house. Cable snapped at the small barrel on the upper end. I'm assuming this can't be repair, but is a replacement fix. How many models share this particular part. My nearest dealer is in Yorktown, I'm in Richmond and I'd hate to be down til one got here from Italy. Also, time frame wise, how long should I allow for replacing it. Thanks guys

I  hate it when that happens Undecided

I think most monster cables will be the same (well maybe not the monster city) as long as they are not fuelies.

Plan on close to an hour as the airbox has to come off. I have changed them without removing the airbox but it was more hassle than it was worth.

If you cannot find a cable localy try BCM. They should have them in stock.
I would not buy used unless you are changing them our self. they do not break often but you do not want to pay someone to install them twice.
good luck

This could be  a good time to get those FCR kehins you know you want. Evil

I guess the smart thing to do is replace both opening and closing cables at the same time.  the part numbers are different. After checking two sources, looks like I might be down for the week Cry

ok, finally got both of my new cables today. Have the air box off and took a good look at things in there. Should the carbs come off, cause it looks awfully tricky trying to do this with them attached, even with everything I've taken off. And if they do, are they idiot proof putting back on in the right orientation? Thanks

just get the cables on right and the carbs are the easy parts to re-install. a little lube on the rubber manifolds helps a lot.

Thanks Ducvet.

Ok, so pull the carbs, unhook the old cables. Work back from the carbs with the cables to the handlebar? Does it matter if I hook up the opening or closing cable first at the handlebars? Thanks again.

install the cables on the carbs first and then route the cables and re-install the carbs. do not put the airbox on until the cables are on and adjusted. Makes no difference which cable first so do whatever is easier.

Just finished it up and started it drink. I need to adjust a bit, seems I has a smidgeen more than 4mm of slack in the opening cable. Guess the bar end is the place for small adjustments?

I've got to say that was more work than I thought it'd be in the beginning. Did the opening cable first and then the closing and that was no fun, but it buttoned up nicely except for trying to get the air box back inside the frame, which took some head scratching and stern talking to. Ducvet, Thanks for the guidance and if you're ever in the Old Dominion, I owe you one! chug

adjusting at the throttle end is easier, but it doesn't matter, you can do it at the carb end too.

Watch out that you don't end up with the closer cable too tight after you adjust the opener cable, as you *can* have some freeplay off of the stop in the throttle, but the cables too tight and it'll be sticky.

You are welcome.
Don't worry about the time to get the job done just worry about getting it done right. I will not complain about speed until you have done the job three more times.
I would bet you could halve your time now though. waytogo
