I still love the old Gloss Pearl White though, which is why my bike is the best 

The new "silk" white is not nearly as nice.

I'm a complete ducati noob here so still getting familiar with everything. Quite a switch from my current chrome-covered cruiser.

I'm feeling at this point though to stop thinking so much, just get the bike, enjoy it for the summer, and then if I do anything make it a winter project.

I agree.  Relax, don't worry, go for some rides, have some beers, and be happy!  Mod in the winter when you CAN'T ride... The skins won't make you any faster

It's pretty difficult to justify taking a brand new bike COMPLETELY apart.. isn't it..

Might i make a suggestion? Get your red-framed 796, a set of flat black skins, and make your OWN Darmah kit:

Nice! Although something like this would be very very cool: Wrong shade of gold I'd try to match the gold on the tank cover, but you get the idea...
