get a flat screw diver ,grind to just slightly bigger the allen head then grind each side like a knife gently tap in and place a set of clamp plyers om the screw driver handle and undo easy  waytogo cheers bazz


+1 on what Bazz said

use a square shaft screwdriver

or a 5.5 mm hex key filed down a wee bit and gently tapped in using a soft face hammer

Was having brake shudder on the ST so had a secondhand set of brake rotors in the shed, thought I'd fit them up today, did notice that the centre's were slightly different.

Original rotor on the left, replacement on right




Bit of difference in Diameter








On they go.





Hope they work OK.

Hey Mick looks like the originals are 2.5 inches  which seem odd for an italian bike Shocked and the after market are 64 mm bore.
I personly wouldn't do it.
May be on Teffs bike though Cheesy

       Both set of disc's are genuine Ducati, the set I've just put on I bought secondhand 3 years ago but I've not had time to check to see if they are ok.

Really? I'm kind of surprised. For a difference of 0.3mm you wouldn't run them?

If your bolts line up, the offset is the same, the disc/pad contact area is the same then who cares what the hub size is so long as it fits?

Mick - I'm sure you've already done this, but I understand it might be worthwhile changing pads when swapping discs so that the new pads bed in to the new discs (or some such thing).

Agree with Wells.  0.3mm is the thickness of a coat of paint.

That said, they look as ugly as sin.

Yeah, not a huge fan of the steel carrier ones either.
That being said.. I'd take the aesthetic hit if it meant no shudder under brakes... especially at speed.

I guess .3 might as well be 30mm.
Then you are only only relying on the bolt holes to make the disc run true /concentric.and if there is a fair bit of clearance in the bolt holes the the disc will  have the potential  to oscillate.
And the run out will be far greater on the out side diameter,giving a pulsing affect.
You are also relying on the bolts to stop any radial movement. rather than the locating hub on the wheel.

The possible worst case scenario
 the disc could have the potential to flog it self out on the bolts.
or the bolts to shear under load,thus no brakes, but hey you still have a back brake. Wink

But  hey you two are the Engineers you can sign of on it Cheesy

And +1 on the ugly bit vomit

ahhh okay, now I see what you're saying, concerned about Radial oscillation/movement..
I've seen plenty of bikes with clearance around the hub and being secured, aligned, etc by "just the bolts".. Doesn't mean it's right though.

In my VERY limited experience I've not seen it as an issue so long as there's not much play in the bolts/holes... I'm surprised to hear that the expert opinion of people like yourself is different to what I would have thought.

Wouldn't the best answer for

be "... then find some new discs"?

Oooh, that's a bit below the belt...
Firstly, I think we're both electrical engineers.
Secondly, my degree should be all but revoked having not worked in the field for years... now all it proves is I knew how to do maths once and I was too stupid to change to B.Sci or something like that.
