Just checking out the forcast for the trip over from Adelaide to PI via G.O.R. Rain / showers and windy. Blaaagghhh   also. bang head

Some of my mates just say "don't go that way then" A bit hard when you've booked into a motel room at Warrnambool on Wednesday night and also meeting up with a mate at Mt Gambier on the way.

It's not so much the rain I hate, it's the bloody wind! Cry

On the bright side, it's looking good for the extented trip home via Omeo, Great alpine road  echuca and across the Mallee region. [moto]

2 more sleeps Cool

The old road heading south from the interchange is now marked as 50km/h ... yes that's right fifty! I am not sure how long it continues as that is where I turned for home ... but ... FIFTY! Looks like its time for another pregnant dog and moan session about nanny states and revenue raising.

For those of you who don't know the road (or are interstate and still reading), it is a rural road with very little traffic (but plenty of bikes on the weekend) ... in a built up area with lots of kids playing in the street and old-folks on their mobility scooters 50km/h may make sense to some ... but c'mon fifty, out there?

ok guys and girls,

Betty and i went for a run yesterday on the old raod, and to clarify things, there is a 50km zone from the new set of lights where the 2 houses are , and past the first corner and thats it. I think there was a fatality there not so long ago, but dont know if this has anything to do with it. So the 50km zone is not long, then it goes back to 60km as usual. And yes we did come across a  Police too, but whats new. Just thought i update people on this.

I'll get stuck into the Plods if I think they warrant it, but I will always give credit where credit is due. waytogo

And the policing of the bikes in Cowes over the GP weekend was brilliant!! Friday arvo (I think?? Things started getting a little IZ_ after lunch! chug )whilst sampling the alchohlic and visual delights on the main drag, we saw probably 12 or so solos roll in. There were mostly the high viz bikes but there were a couple of "Q" bikes. "Uhoh" we think, "Here comes a floggin' for the riders!!". Roll Eyes

Anyway they all pull up and dismount and pull the helmets off, and I reckon not one of them would have been under 40 years of age (Lotsa grey hair and grey beards  Grin ). Hmmm. And they are very relaxed and are taking the piss out of each other as we all do after having a ride together.  Cool

They then head for Euphoria outdoor eating area and proceed to chow down. They were very approachable and joked around with the people, had photos taken with people and even let people sit on their bikes. Shocked

All they did all weekend was check licences and regos, as well as the usual patroling but it was relaxed and non intimidating. The older heads really have a different attitude to their job and can get things done without fuss and without getting up peoples noses.  waytogo

I didnt see any riders getting severely hassled about zorsts or fender eliminators, and even low level hooliganism was tolerated to a point, and even copped a sly grin from the boys in blue!!  Cool
Overall, very well done and it meant for a relaxed, fun weekend. waytogo

Maybe some of the younger/newer members of the force should take a note out of their book. You can still do your job without acting like an officious tool, and you'll get cooperation from the masses instead of agro!  waytogo Police applause

you know Dragon, I thought the same, it was very relaxed but known...and they seemed to enjoy some of the day too....I was travelling up that little hill when it goes into a one way, and was doing 60 and he waved me to go faster!!!

the ride home was good too, just a tad over the limit but very much in control....and I saw less problems on the 130km trip hme than I do on the 7km trip to work....so obviously everyone knew what they were doing.

Uh-oh ... what's going on here?

« Reply #1235 on: October 20, 2009, 07:04:49 PM »

So we went out for another little cruise down the old road today to meet the outlaws for lunch. Bloody hot!

Lessons learnt about hot weather riding:
 . perforated leather = good
 . back protector = bad
 . grip = good
 . tyre wear = bad
