Looks like I'm buying my back my bike after another's insurance co declared it a total loss. I'm shopping around now for another '00 era monster and may pull the trigger on one in the next week or so. Anyway can't keep two (no garage), so one way or another this one has to go. All damage is strickly cosmetic, a slightly skinned up Storm tank, couple scratches on the frame, and rubbed down left side pazzo lever and crg hindsight mirror. I've got the time to sell it in pieces, but it seem a bit sacrilegious to tear down a perfectly good bike. 34k miles on the clock and will have a normal clean title. What do you think?

You can get more money parting out the bike, though you will be working for it.  I would try to pass the bike on to a friend at my cost.

How can it have a normal clean title if it has been declared a total?

Why not keep it and fix it for yourself if all the damage is cosmetic?

What ducpainter said.

I did this a few years ago - Some of the longer term members may recall -  Had to rebuild the front end and the left side, as well as some of the throttle assembly. LOTS of polishing and painting - but I learned a great deal and really enjoyed the process. Thankfully everyone here was VERY patient with me.

Nate, I hit the sweet spot. It didn't qualify as a late model in either years (5) or value ($10,000) and in Va if the % of total loss to repair cost doesn't fall within a specific ratio and isn't a late model vehicle, it isn't reported as toal loss to DMV, hence no salvage title is issued. The pay out, less the buy back, is better than I intially thought and I ran across a M900 with about half as many miles as my current bike.  I essentially get a same year 900 for what they're giving me for the 750. The bike is a good starting point to do some modding and the sale as a whole or parting out my current bike is going to help pay for that. The bad news is it's yellow, the good news is that the tank is undamaged. I expect the tank will be up your way in the late fall to do what we discussed.

That explains it then.

Moving to a 900 and getting paid is a good deal.

I guess I'd sell the bike whole unless you have the time to break it and do the ebay thing. You won't get the same money, but it will be quick and easy.

Yep, I've got a feeling I might need to do the sale quick. The 900 has a Road Racing exhaust on it and that sucka is LOUD! I've got a feeling my neighbors are gonna quit calling me the "alarm clock" and settle on a$$hole instead. [laugh]

750 exhaust headers won't swap out will the 900 will they?

Nope...

Nate, is it the length or diameter that's different?

The length...things are too short to reach the exhaust ports.
