DP Oil Cooler kit or H Competition?

I can basically get either for about the same price.

What's the recommendation?

Thx.

U can custom make one...

I made one for under $100... About $140 when you add in new oil..

Basically, any oil cooler will work as long as you can mount it up to the bike. All you need is the bypass spring which is bolted where the oil filter goes... That costs about $8. Then you can buy a used cooler off ebay for anywhere from $50-100.

Pic with it on...

and a write-up that I did back in the day.... Lists the parts needed... I used one off an M750

Had I done it again, I would of had the oil cooler ceramic coated black(I made mistake of spray painting) and not have painted the oil cooler lines/connectors since they scratched..

I have since re-painted some things, but It still doesnt look as clean as I would of liked...

You could also buy a new oil cooler that mounts differently if you want.

Where do you live? what are the average temps? what kind of riding do you do? commuting in heavy hot traffic? or weekend only runs in the hills?

The H-competition has more cooling capacity.

Commuting in traffic in decent summer heat.   Even a cool morning like I had today (10 celcius)  I saw 5 bars.

When the true summer heat arrives I'm going to need some cooling help.

The H-Comp one is really nice looking, and Ryan is a good guy to work with... There are a few options depending on how much you want to spend...

But, I get a max of 4 bars in summer riding around town with mine, and that is on freeway and higher RPM.

Typically, I am at 3 bars around town and when I'm in the hills.

The H Comp kit was design in and tested on the streets of Phoenix Arizona. Not sure if it gets much hotter anywhere than there.

I installed the Ducati oil cooler in my 696, which is the same one as on the 1100, and it does a decent job of cooling the oil.
I live in the hot, dry area of California (affordable area) with the temps averaging in the low 100's all summer and I don't ride in the winter. If I had to do the job again, I would install the largest oil cooler that I could find.
Most have had great results with that H comp company, I have had only one small purchase from them and it didn't go so well.
Definitely shop around for the most for your money, and then   [moto]

How many bars do you average on city and highway before and after the cooler?  What was the most amount of bars you've seen with the cooler installed?

I have one of the early 696 bikes with the coil wire issue, which caused major overheating, flashing six bars! I have always been worried about overheating because of that past issue and the vary hot climate where I live. Before the oil cooler install I would be at 4 but mostly 5 bars. After, around 3-4 bars. but before the oil cooler install, my bike would mostly stay at 5  bars and I could feel the heat coming off the bike and smell the engine cooking in the heat, now no worries.  [moto]
