I know this sounds silly but what kind of spark do you have? Things I would check are : plug wires, clean plugs, coils, charging system and use the proper battery as they use a lot of amperage, check and clean battery terminals.Check that you have a good ground from the battery. 90% of electrical issues are a shitty ground.
Wish I was there to offer more stupid advice and drink all of your beer..... laughingdp best wishes.

In case it helps, my 07S4Rs (same engine):

- usually starts within a couple of cranks, and with the throttle left alone.

- had a voltage regulator go bad, so that the battery went flat and wouldn't start the bike. For irrelevant reasons, I rode it about 50 miles like that, push starting twice (no fun!). Bike ran fine on the highway but would die immediately if revs dropped to idle levels.

Good luck with finding a fix.

Is there a procedure to test the voltage regulator?

I would assume that if the battery is getting 12.5-14V while the bike is running, all is OK. ?

IIRC, Howie has linked to a charging system checkout procedure....

I think this is it:

Cool, thanks!  I'll get on this and report back tomorrow with what I find.

Telltale sign for mine was discoloured insulation on the wires coming from the regulator, obviously from overheating.

It seemed to me your bike's symptoms were different from mine. So I was thinking your problems probably were not (just) down to battery/regulator issues.

The rest could have been merely bad fuel tho.

I'm looking forward to hearing how this monster rides ...  Smiley

Does one of your lines have a White Band on it?
