Bike won't start after push.

This morning for the first time, I pushed my bike 30ft down the parking lot before starting her up (my carport is right next to someone's bedroom window and they've been complaining). Once I pushed my bike to another spot and tried starting it, the bike didn't want to start. I gave it like 10 more tries before giving up. The battery had no problem turning the engine but the engine didn't want to keep running. I tried adjusting the idle level in different positions. No go. I tried different throttle positions. No go. It was around 70F so it wasn't cold at all. I finally gave up and went back inside. Went back out and tried again 5 minutes later and it started right up. What gives? I've never had problems starting the bike before. Was it because I pushed the bike while it was off? Do I have to let the bike sit for awhile after I push the bike?

I don't have any clue yet as I'm just learning ours - I'll say the salesman was ADAMANT that the order of things at startup have significance on these bikes.

i.e.

That you must

1. Turn key on
2. THEN set fast idle lever to cold start
3. THEN hit the starter.

He said the techs there told him that the fast idle lever does MORE for this motor than just hold the throttle plates open. I was/am skeptical, but he claimed that the techs told him the ECM goes into a cold-start enrichment map if you do it this way, but DOES NOT go into that same map (basing mixtures only on ambient temp/pressure) if you break that sequence, say by pulling the fast idle lever to that position BEFORE turning on the key.

I have aboslutely no idea if it is true or not yet. But I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

It does sound strange to me though, comparing the function of this lever with that on other Euro bikes I've owned. Then again, we supposedly have a different ECU (Siemens, where earlier bikes I guess used Marelli) so anything is possible.

Pushing the bike would have no effect on starting.  Unless you pushed it into an oxygen free environment!
